Train Your Brain for a Healthy Financial Future with LearningRx

In today’s society there are so many distractions, making it sometimes hard to focus – whether it be in the classroom or in everyday life. With ADD, ADHD and other disorders, tutoring may not be enough. LearningRx takes learning a step further with brain training. As its website states, the company’s approach goes beyond basic tutoring by improving attention, math, memory and reading skills in ways that last – for both kids and adults. In the company’s 35+ year history, founder Dr. Ken Gibson and his staff have helped over 100,000 individuals with a unique cognitive training methodology. His daughter, Chief Research and Development Officer for LearningRx, Tanya Mitchell, spoke with RewardExpert about why LearningRx stands out from other learning companies and how brain training can help anyone have a successful future.

One-on-One Training

Mitchell said LearningRx’s core programs always include personal, one-on-one training. She believes this is important if people want to see real changes in their skills. “Clients start by having their cognitive skills assessed (seven skills that make up an individual’s IQ) so that if there is a weakness, we can start by training and improving those skills.”

The company offers a variety of programs including reading, math, study skills and adult booster programs, and their current research is focused on brain injury and mild cognitive impairment – the first stage of Alzheimer’s. Each program targets specific cognitive weaknesses. “Every task you do from the moment you wake requires cognitive skills. So how you communicate, drive, select your career, your spouse, your hobbies, etc. are all affected by cognitive skills,” explained Mitchell.

Every student is different, so every program is different and tailored to the needs of the individual. Mitchell is a mom of four kids herself, and discussed her 16-year-old son’s brain training program that he just completed last year. “He was very impulsive and could get in some trouble at school or with friends. After training, he has been able to maintain a job and start saving for his future. He would have never considered his future or saving before training. He also feels confident that he can go to college.”

Brain Training

So what is brain training? According to Mitchell, “Brain training focuses on developing underlying skills like memory and logic instead of subject material like math and English. When you can process information better and faster, you’re able to learn it the first time and remember it versus having to repeat the same information.”

LearningRx recently created a new site, www.braintrainingvstutoring.com, which has assessments and tools so parents or students can make the best decision to meet their own individual needs. “I believe that brain training is a great option for any age, and our results with adult clients actually show the greatest improvements,” noted Mitchell.

Her father, Dr. Ken Gibson, started LearningRx back in the 1980s because he wanted to help kids like him who had trouble learning how to read. Mitchell believes that a child who struggles to read needs quick and focused help. “Our number one client has reading difficulties. In my experience, 99.9% of struggling readers can be helped if the training focuses on the right areas.”

What Sets LearningRx Apart

The numbers speak for themselves. Last year, LearningRx celebrated 100,000 brains trained, and currently the company has 80 locations in the US, as well as 400 licensed providers around the world in over 40 countries.  Mitchell stated, “Focusing on clients first has created a program unmatched in real-life results. We have always focused on the greatest, fastest change for those that want to learn easier and perform better in any area of their life.” This includes the financial part of their life, as well. Mitchell said she saw this firsthand with her son being able to hold a job and save for his future after completing his brain training.

LearningRx is helping people one brain at a time, and what makes the company even more successful is that the staff is always learning as well. Dr. Gibson’s formula for developing the best skills training program has always been the same: Trials + Results = More Research + More Development. The bottom line is never stop learning.
