MasterCard is a global payment network that brands a variety of credit cards. These cards come with global acceptance and are issued by various banks. Depending on the bank that issues your credit card, there are many types of rewards, sign-bonuses and travel benefits to be had.
In addition to partnering with banks, there is also an assortment co-branded airline, hotel and even cruise line MasterCard credit cards. Or you can choose a MasterCard with cashback rewards. Some cards come with a 0% introductory interest rate and others are no-fee cards, to name a few options.
But no matter what type of card you get, be sure to know all of the perks, benefits and rewards you are entitled to as a cardholder. Whether you use your MasterCard to shop or travel, there are a host of benefits you will receive at no additional cost that can save you both money and time.
There are three levels of MasterCard credit cards: the standard MasterCard, World MasterCard and World Elite MasterCard. Many of them earn rewards and have various benefits offered by the bank or issuer. In addition, MasterCard itself presents cardholders with separate benefits and services.
Cards branded with the World MasterCard logo have more travel benefits than the standard MasterCard, and the World Elite MasterCard lineup allows you to travel like a VIP with an extensive list of luxury travel benefits. These cards not only offer a broad range of perks, but they also give cardholders access to upgrades, savings and discounts in a number of travel-related programs, including airlines, hotels, rental cars and cruises. Though World Elite MasterCard credit cards are at the top, don’t underestimate the benefits of holding any MasterCard.
40,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 in the first 90 days
The short answer is absolutely. Depending on your travel and spending habits, this card may or not make sense for you after the first year when you start paying the annual fee, but earning 40,000 miles after meeting the minimum spend and earning 2X miles on all purchases are tremendous benefits. Not only that, but if this becomes your go-to card, miles will rack up fast, and with the 5 percent redemption bonus, that’s like earning 2.1 percent back on every purchase, every day. This card is just as good as any other cashback card currently on the market.
The Citi Simplicity card is consumer friendly, offering benefits not commonly found with other credit cards. Once approved, all your purchases for the first 21 billing cycles will not accrue any interest charges. Additionally, if you make a balance transfer within the first four months of opening your account, that balance will also get up to 21 months of no interest. Both are amazing offers!
How does this work? Your interest rate for those 21 months is set at 0% as opposed to a low or standard credit card interest rate. Don’t get carried away, though, because you still have a credit limit, and after those 21 months are up, you have to start paying interest on any remaining balance.
$150 bonus once you spend $500 on purchases within the first 3 months
Capital One’s Quicksilver card is a great card for earning cash back. If you want to simplify your wallet and you value cash more than miles and points, this is the card for you. Since you can earn 1.5 percent back on every single purchase you make and never pay an annual fee, you can earn some serious cash on everyday purchases, big ticket items, all types of travel or whatever else you choose.
Again, since this card has no annual fee, there’s little downside to the Quicksilver credit card. Yet, it still comes with the elevated MasterCard World Elite protections. As far as travel cards go, this is not a premium card that helps earn status, free checked bags or lounge access, but if you’re an occasional traveler or prefer to fly economy, this card is still a good bet. The cashback you earn can be used toward travel or any other purchase you make. Flexibility makes this a great card.
40,000 bonus points after you spend $1,000 in the first 90 days
The JetBlue Plus card is great for frequent JetBlue travelers. The annual anniversary bonus makes this card relatively cheap to have. For anyone that flies at least 2 to 3 times a year on JetBlue, the free checked bag benefit alone can pay for the card.
More than that, this card has significantly better earning power than most co-branded airline cards. With 2x points at both restaurants and grocery stores, plus an impressive 6x points for JetBlue purchases, there are a ton of opportunities to rack up the points and earn your next free flight quickly.
2,500 bonus Diamond Plus Points™ after your first purchase
Overall, the Diamond Resorts International credit card isn’t a great choice for almost anybody. While it does offer some benefits, there are other cards out there that offer more. No matter what you spend your money on, how much you spend or how you like to use your points, there’s probably a better option out there.
If you are a Diamond Resorts customer about to make a big down payment on a timeshare, you might find value in this card’s 0% APR offer. However, that offer is only for six months, and there are other cards available that offer 0% APR on new purchases for a year or more.
That said, since this card has no annual fee, there’s not much harm in getting it. You will earn the $19 sign-up bonus after the first purchase and you don’t need to spend anything in order to make it worth keeping the card long term.
60,000 Points after you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months
This hotel credit card is a good all-around option for almost anybody. While IHG points aren’t the most valuable travel currency out there, the annual free night makes this card worth getting for just about anyone. Even if you don’t stay often in IHG hotels, having a full year to use their annual free night will certainly come in handy as they have hotels and resorts all over the place.
In addition, the Platinum Elite status can come in handy and being able to keep your IHG points active with a single purchase on your IHG credit card each year can go a long way. And when you do decide to redeem some points, you’ll get 10 percent of them back. Getting all of that for just $49 a year is pretty hard to beat, so this should be a card you consider keeping for a long time.
15,000 bonus miles after you spend $1 within the first 12 month
Do you regularly fly on Spirit Airlines? If the answer is yes, then you should probably get the Spirit Airlines World MasterCard. Not only does it offer a solid sign-up bonus and a generous earning scheme, but it also comes with a couple of benefits that Spirit frequent flyers really can’t do without.
Being a cardholder is the easiest way to keep your Free Spirit miles alive. Without the card, your miles will expire in just 90 days. While that betrays Spirit’s stingy, budget-obsessed business model, I suspect it’s really designed to be an incentive for Free Spirit members to get the credit card. With the card, you just have to make one purchase a month to save your miles.
The second perk that Free Spirit members shouldn’t do without is access to the cheapest redemption levels. Only cardholders can get the best deals on award flights. In essence, you can’t be a full member of Spirit’s frequent flyer program without the credit card.
