"If you want more flexibility, consider one of Citi’s ThankYou Rewards cards."

Citi offers consumers a wide range of credit card options. Most Citi credit cards include a combination of a generous sign-up bonus and the ability to earn varying rewards on purchases. No matter if you’re looking to earn cash back or Citi ThankYou points, there is a card for everyone.

Earning Citi ThankYou points will give cardholders the chance to earn free travel by transferring them to one of many different travel partners. In addition, Citi also offers several different credit cards helping you earn American Airlines AAdvantage miles or Hilton HHonors points. Some Citi cards have no annual fees and others offer no foreign transaction fees on purchases made abroad.

Rewards Credit Cards from Citi

How does a free trip anywhere in the world sound to you? That is exactly what can happen with a Citi rewards credit card. Citi offers American Airlines co-branded cards, which can help you earn enough AAdvantage miles to fly nearly anywhere imaginable. You’ll also get some valuable perks, like free checked bags and priority boarding, while flying with American.

If you want more flexibility, consider one of Citi’s ThankYou Rewards cards. With the ability to transfer your points to 13 airline partners, it’s easy to find award tickets to wherever you want to go. You can also redeem points for hotel rooms, gift cards and more.

A simple cashback card is another option. The Citi Double Cash card has one of the most competitive rates in the industry. Plus, it offers a very attractive balance transfer offer.

Citi ThankYou Credit Cards

6 cards

Citi credit cards that earn ThankYou points will offer many different ways to redeem the rewards you earn. You can use them towards gift cards, merchandise and cash back, or they can be transferred to one of many different travel partners for free travel.

Airline Credit Cards

4 cards

Citi partners with American Airlines to offer several different co-branded credit cards. Each card will offer attractive sign-up bonuses, however the Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard has the highest bonus at 75,000 miles. Plus, each card offers other benefits like first checked bag free, priority boarding and 25 percent in-flight savings.

Cashback Cards

4 cards

Do you want to save money on every purchase you make? If so, then a cashback card might be just what your wallet needs. The Citi Double Cash card offers cardholders 2% back on all purchases. Plus, if you are looking to transfer a balance, you’ll get 18 months with a 0% APR.

Travel Credit Cards

2 cards

If you love to travel, but don’t want to be tied down to just one loyalty program, then a general travel credit card might be good for you. A card like the Expedia+ card or Expedia+ Voyager card will offer generous sign-up bonuses and rewards on every purchase. Then you can use your rewards to book any travel-related expense.

Over the past several years, airlines and hotels have been frequently devaluing their loyalty programs. This makes it harder and harder to earn free flights and hotels stays through travel. This is why the credit card in your wallet has become so important. For those that still want to earn free travel benefits, using one of these Citi credit cards is an essential piece of the puzzle. With industry leading sign-up bonuses and generous rewards for purchases, free travel is still a possibility for anyone with a Citi rewards credit card.

Citi ThankYou Rewards Program

The Citi ThankYou Rewards program is a great way to maximize the value you receive from your credit card. Instead of focusing on one individual loyalty program, it offers multiple ways to redeem the points you earn, including transfers to several different airline and hotel partners.

One of the most popular cards is the Citi Prestige card. It comes with some great features, such as a big sign-up bonus, airport lounge access and an air travel credit. However, it has a high annual fee, which means it might not be the best for someone new to the travel hacking game. Instead that person might be interested in a card like the Citi ThankYou Preferred, which also offers a great sign-up bonus, but no annual fee.

Not interested in earning Citi travel rewards? That’s not a problem either. Citi ThankYou Rewards gives you the chance to redeem points for much more than just travel. While the value you receive will vary, there is something for everybody.

How To Use the Citi ThankYou® Rewards Program

Citi ThankYou points are valuable because of the many different ways you can redeem your rewards. You could choose to receive a statement credit on your account, get a gift card to your favorite store or to pay down student loans or a mortgage you have through Citi. But the way to get the most value is by transferring points to one of the program’s 14 airline and hotel partners. Partners include airlines like Air France/KLM, JetBlue, Singapore Airlines and Hilton Hotels.

No matter if you are a new travel hacker or someone that has accumulated millions of miles, you are always going to look for the best redemptions. Citi ThankYou partners let you do that.

For example, you could transfer points and fly Singapore Airlines to Hawaii for 60,000 points in business class. It would cost you 80,000 miles roundtrip on United. If you want to fly to Europe, then a great option is to transfer points to Flying Blue and use their discounted promo awards.

Citi ThankYou points give travelers the ability to earn enough miles to book business and first class seats for little or no cost. These seats might not be affordable to most travelers if paid for with cash.

Citi Credit Cards Benefits

Everyone loves to earn a big sign-up bonus or extra points on certain purchases. These are the benefits that are publicized the most. However, there are many other benefits that are frequently overlooked. These are the less glamorous things, but they can also add tremendous value when utilized.

If an airline loses your luggage, your Citi credit card has you covered. What if you get into an accident with your rental car? Citi might be able to fix that, too. There are so many benefits that come with Citi credit cards, and it’s important to understand what they are so you can get the most value possible.

Extended Warranty:

Once the warranty runs out on items you purchase, Citi will add another 24 months to help give you peace of mind. If the item is damaged, Citi will repair, replace, or reimburse the amount of the item, up to $10,000.

Citi Price Rewind:

Citi will search hundreds of online retailers to make sure you are always getting the best price on the items you purchase. If they find a lower price within 60 days, you will receive the difference back. Covers up to $500.

Worldwide Car Rental Insurance:

Feel more protected when you are behind the wheel on your next vacation. If you are in an accident when renting a car, you will receive protection for up to $100,000. Just make sure you decline the rental coverage through the car rental company.

Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance:

Sickness, injuries and bad weather happen. When they do, your Citi card will be there to protect you. If you have non-refundable travel plans you may be able to receive a refund of up to $5,000 per traveler per trip.

Return Protection

Need a little extra time to return a purchase that you made? With select Citi cards you will have up to 90 days to receive a full refund of up to $500.

Lost Baggage Protection:

If your carry-on or checked luggage is lost during travel, you could be reimbursed up to $3,000 for the items in your bags.

Citibank Online Banking

Managing your Citi credit card accounts is simple with the Citibank online banking options. You have the chance to view all your important account information in one place. You can view your current balance, look at current and past statements, and make same-day payments. Plus, to help keep your budget up-to-date, you will be able to access all of your past transactions in a few easy clicks. But that’s not all. Citi cardholders will also have the chance to initiate a balance transfer, add an authorized user, and review credit card rewards.

Mobile Banking

With more and more of our everyday lives taking place on the go, having mobile access for our banking needs is a must. With the Citi mobile app you will be able to take care of many different banking tasks directly from your tablet or smartphone. This will give you an instant snapshot of your banking and credit card accounts.

You can receive push notifications alerting you when your credit card is used. Plus, if you ever misplace your card, you will be able to use Citi Quick Lock to stop future transactions from being made.

Want to make a payment without even taking out your wallet? Not a problem with any Apple, Android, or Samsung device. With mobile pay, you can add your Citi cards to a digital wallet and quickly make purchases at participating merchants.

Citi Fraud Protection

With Citi fraud protection, your account transactions will be monitored for any unusual activity. Many times the fraud protection team will be able to spot suspicious transactions before you even have a chance to notice something is wrong. If they do find something that seems off, they will contact you to make sure the transaction was indeed authorized by you. This should help you feel a little more at ease in case your card falls into the wrong hands. If unauthorized charges are made on your account, Citi offers $0 liability to their cardholders.

How to Report Suspected Fraud

Even though the Citi fraud prevention team is thorough, things can slip through the cracks. It’s important to always stay vigilant with your account. Stay up to date on your account information to make sure it’s all current and accurate. Make it part of your routine to check the transactions on your account and make sure they are all correct. You can also set up alerts on your phone or email to make you aware when your account has been used. If you spot things that don’t seem right, contact the Citi fraud department immediately at 1-800-374-9700.

FAQs

Need more info? Check out our FAQ. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

  • The rules regarding how many Citi cards you are allowed to carry in your wallet is much more generous than some issuers. There was a time when you were allowed to have multiple versions of the same Citi card. Now you are not awarded a sign-up bonus if you have opened or closed that card within the past 24 months. While there is no real limit to the number of Citi cards you can have open at once, they do limit the total outstanding credit you can have.
  • The minimum payment on your account is the smallest amount that can be paid each month toward your credit card balance without incurring fees. Most credit card issuers will use a very similar formula when calculating the minimum payment. It’s 1 percent of the total balance, plus any fees and interest on the account. For small balances there is a minimum payment of $25.
  • Citi officially says that they will not approve more than one application for a personal card in a week, and no more than two applications within two months. Citi Business cards operate a little differently. Citi states that you can’t receive more than one business card every 90 days.
Most reward experts will advise you to abide by the 8/65/95 rule. This means that you should apply for no more than one card every eight days; no more than two cards every 65 days; and no more than one business card every 95 days. This rule extends a few extra days past Citi’s stated guidelines and hopefully helps you avoid a declined application.
If you are declined for a Citi card, then you can appeal by calling 1-800-695-5171 for personal cards, or 1-800-763-9795 for business cards.
  • One of the reasons why Citibank rewards are so valuable is because of the many different ways you can earn them. With the Citi ThankYou program you have the ability to earn points through banking activities and with certain credit cards.
The credit cards that allow you to earn Citi ThankYou points include: Citi ThankYou Preferred, Citi ThankYou Preferred for College Students, AT&T Access Card from Citi, Citi ThankYou Premier and Citi Prestige.
  • If you need to get a hold of Citi customer service with questions on your account or for any other reason, you can call 1-800-347-4934 for personal cards or 1-866-422-3091. If your card is lost or stolen, the number to call is 1-800-950-5114.
  • Like most credit card issuers, Citi will make retention offers when you call customer service and ask to talk to a retention specialist. They value your business and do not want to see you leave for another card.
The offer you receive tends to be specific to the card you are calling about and the amount you typically spend each month. Most of the time they will offer to waive the annual fee if you spend so much within a stated period of time. They may also offer you bonus ThankYou points with a minimum amount of spend.
  • One of the best values for Citi ThankYou points is to transfer them to one of the many travel partners. Many times this can far exceed that standard one cent per point value of ThankYou points.
The current Citi ThankYou transfer partners include the following airline frequent flyer programs: JetBlue TrueBlue,Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, Etihad Guest, EVA Air Infinity MileageLands, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Garuda Indonesia GarudaMiles, Malaysia Airlines Enrich, Qantas Frequent Flyer, Qatar Privilege Club, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Thai Royal Orchid Plus and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. You can also transfer ThankYou points to Hilton Honors.
  • No, your ThankYou points will never expire as long as your account stays open and in good standing. If you decide to close your credit card account, all ThankYou points that you have earned with that card will expire after 30 days. This would also include downgrading from one card to another.
