"A WorldPoints program gives you multiple options for redeeming rewards."

No matter if you are looking for a new travel credit card, hoping to earn cash back or would like to help support breast cancer research, Bank of America has a credit card for you. The wide selection of cards isn’t the only thing that makes Bank of America a leading card issuer. They also do a great job supporting their most loyal customers. Certain Bank of America cards, like the BankAmericard Cash Rewards credit card, offer a bonus to cardholders that have a certain amount of money in other Bank of America products. But it doesn’t stop there. Bank of America also rewards cardholders with high sign-up bonuses, generous purchase reward opportunities and even a handful of no annual fee cards.

Rewards Credit Cards from Bank of America

The reward credit card space continues to grow each year. As the popularity of these cards increases, the importance to stand out becomes critical. Bank of America does a great job of doing this by offering cards like the BankAmericard Travel Rewards card, which offers a big sign-up bonus, an introductory 0% APR and no annual fee.

Want even more? How about the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature card? It gives you the ability to bring a companion on your next flight for just the cost of taxes and fees. But not everyone is looking to travel with the rewards they earn. Instead they might enjoy experiences that they will remember for a lifetime. That is where a card like the MLB credit card comes into play. Everything is possible with Bank of America cards.

Traveling by train is like taking a road trip without actually needing to drive. It allows you to take in your surroundings, which you can’t do traveling by air. Plus, this card will help you earn a free companion ticket and lounge access.

Travel Rewards Credit Cards

With the BankAmericard Travel Rewards card you can redeem your rewards for things like airfare, hotels, car rentals and more.

Over the past decade, travel credit cards have become incredibly popular. In order to compete, issuers have been continuously increasing sign-up bonuses and perks. Bank of America is no different. Many of their travel credit cards will get you close to a free vacation just for signing up. But even if travel isn’t your thing, Bank of America has a credit card for just about every type of person. You might prefer to earn cash back, or you might want to help save endangered animals. No matter what your goal may be, you can accomplish it with Bank of America.

WorldPoints and Preferred Rewards Programs

WorldPoints was at one time the main program from Bank of America, and it was included with most of their rewards cards. Over the years, though, it has been phased out and is now only found on a few cards, such as the WorldPoints Rewards for Business Visa card and the Business Preferred World MasterCard charge card. You can also earn WorldPoints with the Norwegian Cruise Line card.

This program operates much like other reward programs. The points you earn through your card can be redeemed in several different ways. You could choose to use WorldPoints for cash, gift cards, travel and even experiences and events.

Preferred Rewards shouldn’t be confused as a separate rewards program through Bank of America. Instead it’s a way to reward loyal banking customer with a bonus. With Preferred Rewards you will have the chance to earn bonus credit card rewards based on the amount of money you have in a Bank of America or Merrill Edge investment account. Anyone that has a three-month average of at least $20,000 will be a Gold Preferred Rewards member, which will give him or her a 25 percent bonus on all rewards earned. If you have a $50,000 balance, you will be a Platinum Preferred Rewards client and receive a 50 percent bonus. Finally, a $100,000 balance will make you a Platinum Honors client and eligible to receive a 75 percent bonus.

The Chase Ultimate Rewards program is ideal for people looking to get into the mileage game fast and strong, or as a supplement to airline programs for serious travel hackers juggling multiple-miles credit cards and multiple awards programs. It allows you to book travel with points directly through the Ultimate Rewards mall where you can also find great bonuses (up to 15x sometimes!) on many shopping partners like Expedia and Amazon as well as transferring points to partner airline frequent flyer programs.

One of the best parts of the Ultimate Rewards program is that because it's a credit card company program rather than an airline program, Chase is very generous with sign-on bonuses, so after you get your first card and meet the minimum spend, you can book a roun-trip for two right away. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card to use as a base for building up points and miles.

How to Use the Bank of America WorldPoints and Preferred Rewards Program

Not every WorldPoints redemption offers great value. If you choose to redeem points for cash back, then they are worth a maximum of one cent each. Unfortunately, that is only once you reach 25,000 or more points. Points below that threshold are only worth .5 to .8 cents each. Travel and gift cards can be a good redemption choice because your points are always worth a cent each.

If you decide that you want to redeem your WorldPoints for travel, then it’s really simple to do. After logging into your Bank of America account, you will be given the chance to view and redeem your WorldPoints. After you decide to redeem your rewards for travel you will be taken to the Bank of America Travel Center, which is powered by Orbitz. From here you can book a variety of travel, including airfare, hotels and car rentals. Not only will it tell you the cash price for your travel plans, but it will make you aware of how many WorldPoints it will cost.

Because Preferred Rewards is not a separate rewards program, it’s very simple to use. Let’s assume that you are a BankAmericard Cash Rewards cardholder with a combined balance of $30,000 in your Bank of America and Merrill Edge accounts. That would make you a Gold Preferred Rewards customer. Each time you use your BankAmericard Cash Rewards card you would earn 1.25 percent back, instead of the standard one percent.

In addition to the BankAmericard Cash Rewards card, the Preferred Rewards program is used with other Bank of America branded credit cards like the MLB credit card, Pink Ribbon BankAmericard Cash Rewards card, Pride Card, World Wildlife Fund card and BankAmericard Travel Rewards card.

Bank of America Credit Cards Benefits

Credit card issuers love to publicize the large sign-up bonuses they offer or the rewards that cardholders can earn on purchases. These are the things that get people excited and interested in applying. However, what most people don’t know is that there is a lot of value in the little perks that a card might have.

If someone runs into your rental car, Bank of America will be there to offer you protection. If you have a flat tire, they will send someone to help. Credit cards come with so many benefits that, unless you read your benefits guide, you will probably never know they exist.

Roadside Dispatch:

If you have car problems and need assistance, then you can use your Visa Signature card and call for things like a tow, jump start, lockout service and more.

Lost Luggage Reimbursement:

Airlines are known to occasionally lose luggage. When this happens, your Bank of America Visa Signature card will cover you up to $3,000, or $2,000 per piece of luggage.

Travel Assistance:

If you are traveling in a different city and need help finding medical attention, legal counsel or something else, your Bank of America Visa Signature card can assist.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver

If you get into an accident while driving a rental car, you will have the ability to receive reimbursement for any cost not paid for by your primary insurance company.

Price Protection:

Bank of America cards that are World MasterCards come with price protection. If the price drops within 120 days of the purchase, then you will receive reimbursement for the difference.

Bank of America Credit Card Network

Bank of America credit cards are issued by both Visa and MasterCard. Because these are the two largest networks, your cards will be accepted in more than 200 countries worldwide.

Bank of America Online Banking

Bank of America has made it very easy to take care of your banking needs without leaving your house. Through their online platform you have the ability to check your credit card balance, look at past and current statements, redeem the rewards that you have earned and so much more. Most people live very busy lives, so having this convenience is definitely helpful.

Mobile Banking

Much like being able to complete many of your routine banking tasks online from home, you also have the ability to do things on the go. The Bank of America mobile banking app gives you the ability to check your balance, view transactions, pay your bill, check your FICO score, transfer money and so much more. Plus, you will be able to add your Bank of America credit card to a mobile wallet and make purchases directly from your Smartphone.

Bank of America Fraud Protection

Every Bank of America credit card now comes with chip technology, which makes its security even stronger. Bank of America has a team to lookout for unusual activity within your account. When they see something, they will contact you to make sure the transactions were initiated by you. Many times these calls can happen nearly instantaneously with the suspicious transaction.

How to Report Suspicious Fraud

One of the most important things you can do to keep yourself safe from fraud is to stay in the know. Regularly look at your online statements and make sure something doesn’t seem off. If it does, then you should call the Bank of America fraud protection team immediately at 800-432-1000. If there is fraud on your account, Bank of America offers $0 fraud liability, so you won’t be responsible for any of the charges.

FAQs

Need more info? Check out our frequently asked questions. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment below.

  • Bank of America offers several different cash back credit cards. The Bank of America® Cash Rewards™ Credit Card is their main cash back card. Then other cards, like the World Wildlife Fund Credit Card and the Pink Ribbon BankAmericard Cash Rewards™ Credit Card, all use the BankAmericard Cash Rewards structure as a base and add different charitable features. The same goes for the MLB™ Credit Cards. It has the same cashback features as the BankAmericard Cash Rewards card, but then gives you different MLB themed redemption offers.
  • When you apply for a Bank of America credit card, they will perform a hard pull on your credit report. They do this to check your creditworthiness before extending a line of credit. When pulling a credit report, Bank of America has three different options. They could use Experian, TransUnion or Equifax. Instead of using just one credit bureau, Bank of America uses all three. The credit bureau used for your application will depend entirely on what state you currently reside in.
  • A majority of Bank of America reward cards will require either excellent or good credit. This means that someone with a score below 680 will have a low chance of approval. If your credit score is below average, then a great option would be to start with a BankAmericard Secured card. You can use this as a way to build up your credit score with good credit habits. Once your score has improved, you will be able to apply for one of the Bank of America rewards credit cards.
  • There are several different credit cards that will allow you to use your rewards for hotel stays. They include: Business Preferred World MasterCard®, WorldPoints Rewards for Business Visa credit card, Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard®, Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card, Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card for Students and Business Advantage Travel Rewards World Mastercard®.

  • Bank of America has some of the most lenient rules when it comes to signing up for credit cards. Up until 2016, the bank required a 30 day waiting period before applying for the exact same card. Today you must wait at least 90 days between applying for the same card. If you want to sign up for different credit cards, you can do so in the same day. While Bank of America doesn’t have a specific number of cards that you can have at one time, most users say their applications start becoming declined after four cards.

  • If you have a credit card like the BankAmericard Card Rewards card that issues Bank of America rewards, then your rewards will never expire. Your card just needs to stay open and in good standing. However, if you have one of their co-branded cards, like the Spirit Airlines™ World Mastercard®, then your rewards may expire. Please look at your card’s guide to benefits for more information.
