Discover might not have the extensive lineup of credit cards like some other issuers, but don’t let its size influence you. Discover has some of the best credit cards available today. What really draws in consumers is the ability to earn up to five percent cash back with select cards. But that’s not the only thing to love about Discover. None of their cards come with an annual fee and you’ll never be charged a foreign transaction fee. That means Discover cards are very inexpensive to use as long as you are diligent about paying off your balance each month.

Rewards Credit Cards from Discover

At first glance you might not see the appeal of Discover credit cards. None of their cards offer a traditional sign-up bonus, which could be somewhat of a turnoff to some people. But what you might not see right away is that Discover rewards their cardholders in a very different way. They offer a sign-up bonus on the backend in the form of matching cash back for the first 12 months. By doing things this way, each Discover card could end up being very rewarding for the cardholder. No matter if you’re looking for a cashback card like the Discover it, which will help you earn up to five percent back, or a flexible travel card like the Discover it Miles, Discover has something for everyone.

Discover it Miles Credit Cards

1 cards

Discover does not have the extensive rewards program that some credit card issuers have. However, it is going to provide a lot of flexibility. Instead of having a bunch of airline or hotel partners, you can redeem the rewards you earn on any purchase coded as travel. Flexibility can be an attractive option to most, and it can help people forget about the features that might be less attractive.

Cashback Credit Cards

4 cards

Discover is known for their cashback credit cards. A card like Discover it will offer up to five percent cash back on rotating categories each quarter. However, if you eat out a lot or drive long distances to and from work, then the Discover it Gas and Restaurant card might be a great fit for you.

Discover rewards credit cards can be very valuable to cardholders. Even though you will not receive a sign-up bonus, Discover will match the cash back you earned during the first 12 months of having the card. That means the sky's the limit for how much you can really earn. Plus, the ability to earn up to five percent cash back can make the Discover it card a great addition to anyone’s wallet.

Discover it Miles Rewards Program

Those that carry the Discover it Miles card tend to love it because of the flexibility they receive with the Discover it Miles rewards program. No matter if you have been traveling with credit card rewards for years or you are brand new to the game, the Discover it Miles program can be a great supplement to other reward programs. Instead of being tied to a single airline or hotel, or even being limited to a select few, you can use Discover it Miles on any travel purchase and there are no blackout dates.

While each Discover it Mile is worth one cent, you’ll earn 1.5 miles per dollar on every purchase. That means that you’ll essentially get a value of 1.5 cents per mile. On top of that, Discover will match the miles you’ve earned during your first year as a cardholder, effectively boosting your value per mile to three cents. And unlike the standard welcome offers from other issuers, the Discover it card’s bonus is only limited by how much you spend in the first year.

If traveling isn’t really your thing, then that’s okay as well. Even though Discover it Miles are primarily used for travel, you can also redeem them for cash back in the form of an electronic deposit into your bank account.

There are two different ways that you can earn Discover it Miles. You can do so with the Discover it Miles credit card and you can earn them through Discover Deals. With Discover Deals you will be able to shop online at some of the largest retailers and earn bonus miles

How to Use Your Discover it Miles

One of the best things about the Discover it Miles Rewards program is its simplicity. Miles can be used on just about any type of travel expense including: airfare, hotels, car rentals, vacation packages, cruises, tour operators, travel booked through travel agents or online travel websites, and local commuter transportation.

The way the program works is that you start out by booking travel using your Discover it Miles card. You can then log into your account online and use your miles as a credit toward that purchase. After logging in, you would need to select Redeem Miles and then Travel Credit. From there you can choose any travel expense from the past 180 days and apply your miles.

Most people think of credit cards as a means of making a purchase. While this is their main purpose, they also serve consumers in other ways. Discover credit cards come with many benefits that help provide protection when shopping and traveling. Some of the popular benefits that come with Discover credit cards include:

Discover Fraud Protection

Keeping your accounts safe is a priority for Discover Bank. They are actively monitoring all accounts to make sure there are no out of the ordinary transactions. If they do notice something that seems out of place, a Discover Bank fraud professional will contact you and have you review recent transactions.

How to Report Discover Fraud

If you suspect there might be some type of fraud on your account, you are encouraged to call Discover customer support immediately at 1-866-240-7938. • In addition to the standard alerts for unusual account activity, such as large purchases and unauthorized transactions, the issuer offers a new feature called Discover Identity Alerts. If you sign up for this added security, Discover will monitor thousands of risky websites for your Social Security number and you’ll be notified if your information is found.

Risky websites are part of the web that is hidden and not easily accessed. This is sometimes referred to as the Dark Web. Because of their hidden nature, these sites can be used for illegal activities, such as buying and selling stolen personal and credit card information.

Discover will also keep an eye on your Experian credit report for any new credit cards, mortgages, car loans or other accounts opened in your name. If a new account is opened, you’ll be notified. If you don’t recognize the account, Discover will help you close it and reduce your risk of future fraudulent activity.

The daily monitoring for your Social Security number and new accounts will not impact your credit score or credit report in any way.

  • Yes, eligible cardmembers will have the following benefits while they are on active duty. There will be no late or overdraft fees, the interest rate will be adjusted to 5.9 percent, and if there is a promotional or introductory rate that is lower than 5.9 percent, that will be honored until the completion of the offer period.

  • Discover will add all miles to your account as soon as that billing cycle has ended. You will then be able to see an updated total on your monthly billing statement. If you ever have any questions about how miles are accumulated or posted on your account, you can call Discover’s U.S.-based customer support.

  • Discover doesn’t offer upfront sign-up bonuses when you apply for a new credit card. Instead they offer a cashback match. How this works is that over the first 12 billing cycles, Discover will add up the rewards that you have earned. They will then match that amount and add it to your reward balance. For example, if you earn $300 worth of rewards, Discover will automatically add an extra $300 after the first year.
