Can’t Afford College? You Can Still Enjoy a Career with a Solid Financial Future

While data from the U.S. Census Bureau revealed 33.4 percent of the country’s adult population held a bachelor’s degree or higher in 2016, the number of high school graduates immediately enrolling in college has actually decreased in recent years.

Though studies have shown that a college degree can yield higher wages and more employment opportunities, many Americans are forgoing higher education due to the increasing price in tuition and fees. In fact, research by the Institute for Higher Education Policy found that even families earning over $100,000 a year cannot afford nearly 60 percent of U.S. colleges.

Fortunately, looking for work with a high school diploma does not mean your choices are limited to positions without solid futures. According to a recent study by CareerBuilder, some of the hottest in-demand jobs for 2018 don’t even require a college degree.

“It’s not just a list of jobs, it’s a list of careers—careers that offer good pay and have low unemployment,” said Ladan Nikravan Hayes, a CareerBuilder career advisor who recently spoke with RewardExpert. “Not every great job requires a costly, time-consuming degree. What we’re showing here is that good careers exist for workers who have never completed college.”

You can emphasize these types of continuing education by creating a ‘professional development’ section in your resume.”
