According to Pew Research Center, 77 percent of Americans now own a smartphone. Data from Flurry, an analytics company, reveals the members of this group spend an average of five hours a day on their mobile devices browsing the Internet and utilizing a variety of apps.

Hurdling through the air at 500 miles per hour at an altitude of 35,000 feet is a marvel in itself, but today’s on-the-go society wants more. Airlines are responding by adding new-fangled entertainment systems and wireless internet access. But, that isn’t enough. Passengers don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it. Luckily, there are some airlines that connectivity is a modern-day necessity, not a luxury, and they provide free Internet to help pass the time. Hop aboard one of these airlines to take advantage of it and remain productive inflight.

Boredom will not be an issue for travelers flying on Virgin America’s new ViaSat WiFi-equipped aircraft. The carrier will also offer Spotify and The New York Times on board for free through March 2, 2016.

Who hasn’t been in the air and wished they could connect to WiFi and stream a movie, play music, surf the web or send an email? JetBlue is gearing up to make that a reality by offering free high- peed internet on all their flights. The airline has already outfitted over 150 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft with Fly-Fi.
