Aeromexico Visa Signature Card From U.S. Bank Review

Aeromexico Visa Signature Card From U.S. Bank Review

Who Is the Aeromexico Visa Signature Card From U.S. Bank Good For?

Anyone who flies regularly between the United States and Mexico or South America, will benefit from this credit card. Aeromexico has a strong network in those regions, but it is also a SkyTeam member and has some partners of its own. Its global network and partnerships make the airline’s Club Premier kilometers very valuable, especially since its award chart is quite reasonable and generally offers a better value than partner Delta Air Lines.

As is the case with most credit cards that have different levels, U.S. Bank will consider you for a regular Aeromexico Visa card if you don’t qualify for a Visa Signature. The regular card offers a smaller sign-up bonus and a lower annual fee, but fees on both are waived the first year. It also lacks the benefits that come with Visa Signature cards such as concierge service, and does not include a free annual business class upgrade.

The Aeromexico Club Premier partnership is issued by U.S. Bank, though you can transfer points from Starwood Preferred Guest or American Express Membership Rewards into the program.

Club Premier’s currency is kilometers, but the credit card uses miles with an exchange rate of 1.6 kilometers per mile.

Sign-Up Bonus:

The current 20,000-mile (32,000 kilometers) sign-up bonus that you receive after the first purchase is enough for a round-trip domestic flight in Mexico. You also get a companion certificate once approved that allows you to bring a guest on your flight for $99.

What Do Your Miles Get You?

Aeromexico has 14 direct routes between Mexico City and the U.S., in addition to a very strong network in South America. It flies to Lima, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago de Chile, among others. Direct flights to Mexico City leave from:

  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Las Vegas
  • Los Angeles
  • Miami
  • New York (JFK)
  • Orlando
  • Sacramento
  • San Francisco
  • Washington-Dulles
  • Dallas/Fort Worth
  • Houston
  • Miami
  • San Antonio

Not only is Aeromexico a member of SkyTeam, it also has partners in both the oneworld alliance and the Star Alliance, such as Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines and Copa Airlines. It also partners with Alaska Airlines. While Aeromexico Club Premier miles are especially valuable to travelers to Mexico and other parts of the Americas, Aeromexico’s global footprint makes it a one-stop-shop airline.

The Aeromexico Club Premier frequent flyer program has some exceptional award values between the United States and some parts of the world. For example, an award seat to Europe costs 50,000 kilometers in economy and 80,000 kilometers in business class. These redemption rates, especially for business class, represent some of the best values among frequent flyer programs.

  • Online banking

I have been customer of this card since 2014. I do not recommend it to anyone. The terms of use are never clear, the $99 companion is never mailed, the extra piece of luggage is never available at the counter and the airline personnel in Mexico “do not recognize” this card as partner card. Besides if you try to buy tickets on line with the airline this card does not work. Very bad experience.
