Alaska Airlines Is Adding New Routes This Fall

Starting November 5, Alaska Airlines will be offering flights from Los Angeles to Monterey, and from Boise to Reno. In addition to these daily flights, the airline will also be adding new seasonal flights from Los Angeles to Crested Butte in December, making it easier for skiers and snowboarders to hit the slopes in Colorado.

These new routes will be operated by Horizon Air, Alaska’s sister carrier. Travelers booking flights on these new routes will board Horizon’s 76-seat Bombardier Q400 aircraft. These flights offer free Starbucks coffee and soft drinks, and those who are over 21 can also sip free Northwest wines and microbrews.

Award tickets for the Los Angeles-Monterey route will cost 7,500 miles one way. Flights between Boise and Reno and between Los Angeles and Crested Butte start at 12,500 miles each way.

Double Miles for Monterey

The airline is sweetening the deal for customers flying between Monterey and Los Angeles by offering Mileage Plan members double miles on the new route, from November 5 to December 5.

According to the fine print, these flights must be sold by Alaska Airlines and flown by either Horizon Air or SkyWest. The double points can’t be used to earn elite status.

Changes in Mexico Flights

In addition to the new routes, Alaska Airlines also said that it will be making changes to flights between Los Angeles and Loreto, Mexico. Currently the flights are daily, but starting November 1, they will fly only on Thursdays through Sundays. Alaska is increasing the capacity of these flights by switching from the Bombardier Q400 aircraft to Boeing 737s, which adds a total of about 70 seats per week to the route.
