Between Father’s Day and graduation, you’ll have plenty of reasons to buy gifts for your dads and grads. United is offering you a way to turn those reasons into opportunities to earn some extra MileagePlus miles on shopping you would do anyway. You just have to use United’s online shopping portal.

1,000+ Bonus Miles From Nike, Macy’s, Coach and More

For a limited time, the United Airlines MileagePlus Shopping mall is running a Summer Bonus campaign where you can earn extra miles. By shopping through the portal, you can earn 500 bonus miles after spending $150 or 1,000 bonus miles after spending $300 on cumulative purchases.

Act quickly because this offer is only good through June 24.

There is a huge variety of stores on United’s portal, including Coach, iRobot.com, Macys.com, Nike and more. That even includes gift cards. It’s easy to find whatever you’re looking for.

Each one of the participating stores offers another 100-mile bonus after spending at least $50. Additionally, your earning per dollar spent is increased during the promo period to 10 miles per dollar at Nike, Macy’s and Coach.

That can really add up!

You can earn even more miles if you use the MileagePlus X app for your shopping spree. If you’re not familiar with the app, you can use it to order gift cards from select merchants via your smartphone.
You can redeem these gift cards for merchandise at brick-and-mortar stores or online while earning United miles for every purchase of a gift card.

Don’t Forget the United Credit Card

If you hold the United Explorer credit card from Chase, you earn an additional 25% bonus on the miles earned. This card offers a lot more too, including a 40,000-mile sign-up bonus, free checked bags and double miles at restaurants and hotels.

How to Maximize the Summer Bonus Promo – Get 18.75 Miles Per Dollar Spent!

I know I just mentioned a lot of numbers, so let’s visualize how you can increase your points haul when shopping online.

Let’s say you want make a $150 purchase via Macys.com. First, go ahead and buy a gift card for $150 through the MileagePlus X app. Macy’s is offering 3 miles per dollar via the app right now.

Next, go to the promo page on the United MileagePlus Shopping mall and buy the merchandise.

You will earn 150 miles on your credit card, 450 miles for buying a gift card via the app, plus another 112 bonus miles if you hold the United Explorer card.

You will then earn another 1,500 miles by redeeming your gift card through the United shopping portal, 100 bonus miles after spending $50, plus another 500 miles after spending $150.

In this example, you will earn a total of 2,812 United miles after spending just $150. That amounts to 18.75 miles per dollar spent!

Taxes and shipping do not count toward mileage bonuses, unfortunately, but you will earn those points on your credit card as part of your spending.

Bottom Line

Shopping promos like this one from United present an excellent opportunity to score a mileage haul without spending much. As you know, flying isn’t always the best way to earn airline miles, so we have to rely heavily on credit cards to boost our point balances.

Combine your buying spree at the airline shopping portal with the right rewards credit card or co-branded airline card, and you can pull in a lot of miles fast.
