Capital One Savor

Foodies rejoice! Capital One now offers the highest cash back on dining and entertainment of any credit card available. You can earn an unlimited 4% cash back on every dining and entertainment purchases that you make. The Capital One Savor credit card also offers one of the highest sign-up bonuses I’ve ever seen on a pure cash back credit card. Plus, the annual fee of $95 is waived the first year. This card is definitely on top of my list of best cashback credit cards.

The original Capital One Savor cash rewards credit card was released in October 2017 when it replaced the Capital One Premier Dining Rewards credit card. However, the Capital One Savor cash rewards credit card didn’t gain the traction with consumers that Capital One was looking for.

The marketing team regrouped and knew they had to make some changes. They added a massive $300 sign-up bonus and bumped up the earning power to 4% on dining and entertainment. Now the Capital One Savor Card offers the highest unlimited cash back rewards on food and fun that I’ve ever seen!

Access to premium experiences

This benefit hasn’t been defined, but Capital One has hinted that premium experiences are coming. These exclusive events centered around dining and entertainment that only available to cardholders of the Savor and SavorOne cards.

I could earn $1,000 this year with the Savor card

While researching the benefits of this card, I started doing a little math in my head. And I realized just how much I could earn with the Capital One Savor credit card.

Between my wife and me, we easily spend $150 a week dining out, either on dates or picking up takeout for family dinners, and for entertainment, like movies or concert tickets. And when you have a family of 4 like we do, groceries add at least another $150 per week to the household budget.

Spending $150 a week is over $7,500 per year! With a cash back rebate of 4% on dining and entertainment that earns $300. And the grocery store cash back rebate of 2% is another $150. I know that I’m underestimating how much we’re actually spending, so I’ll round up our cash back earnings to $300 between these three categories.

When you add in the $300 sign-up bonus, we could earn at least $800 over the next 12 months with the Capital One Savor card!

So, I have to ask… How much cash back would your family earn with a card like this?

Is there a no annual fee Capital One Savor option?

Remember, the Capital One Savor card waives the $95 annual fee during the first year. After that, the $95 annual fee will apply.

For consumers who dislike paying annual fees, the Capital One SavorOne is an excellent no annual fee option. You’ll earn 3% on dining and entertainment, 2% at grocery stores, and 1% cash back on everything else. The SavorOne also offers a $150 sign-up bonus after spending $500 within three months.

The Capital One SavorOne doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees. And it offers 0% interest on purchases and fee transfers for the first 15 months. Click here for our full review of the Capital One SavorOne credit card.

We’ll write an in-depth post comparing the Capital One Savor and the Capital One SavorOne cards in the coming days to help you decide which version of this credit card is right for you.

How does the Capital One Savor Compare to Other Dining Credit Cards?

There are a few credit cards that focus on dining bonus rewards like the Capital One Savor credit card does.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve earns 3x points on dining, but it has a whopping $450 annual fee. The 3x Ultimate Reward points have a minimum value of 3% cash back or could be worth as much as 4.5% when used to purchase travel. But you still have the issue of the large $450 annual fee, which knocks this.

A more realistic comparison is the Uber Visa Card. It is a credit card with no annual fee that earns 4% cash back on dining, 3% on airfare and hotels, and 2% on online & mobile purchases. The biggest difference is that the Uber Visa Card only offers a $100 sign-up bonus, compared with $300 from the Capital One Savor Card.

Some credit cards like the Chase Freedom and Discover it offer 5% cash back on rotating bonus categories each quarter. You can check full list of 5% cash back cards here. In the past, at least one quarter each year has focused on dining or entertainment-related merchants, but there’s no guarantee what future bonus categories will be.

And, of course, as mentioned above, the no-annual-fee Capital One SavorOne is a worthy competitor to the $95 annual fee Capital One Savor credit card. The SavorOne card only earns 3% cash back on dining and entertainment purchases while offering a $150 sign-up bonus. We’ll share the link when we complete our comparison of these two Capital One cash back cards.
