A functioning and easy to use website is critical for a growing business. While the task of building a website for your brand may seem like a daunting and expensive undertaking, there is a way to create wonderful, personalized websites for free without having to be an expert coder. An Israeli company called Wix is helping do just that. Matt Rosenberg, public relations and communications manager for Wix, spoke to RewardExpert about how it works. “It’s really saving you time and letting you run your business,” he said.

Democratizing the Web

Wix was founded by three entrepreneurs who served in elite units in the Israeli Defense Forces. Rosenberg stated they were all starting different businesses when they realized it was not easy to build a personalized website. Their new idea was filling that gap in the market, making it easier and more cost effective to create your own website. “One of the core beliefs of Wix that has carried through since the founding is that we are helping to democratize access to the Web,” said Rosenberg. And it has been filling that gap in a huge way. Today, Wix has over 150 million registered users in more than 190 countries who are all taking advantage of making easy to use, professional websites.

Create Your Anything

As its webpage says, Wix gives customers “the freedom to create anything.”  At its core, Wix is a platform designed to help customers build dynamic websites in an easy and professional way, so that virtually anyone can do it. In doing so, Wix goes well beyond the myriad of drag and drop website builders and serves all sorts of industries. “I think the strength of Wix is that the width and breadth of what we offer are beyond just a website. We understand that if you’re making a website, you’re making it for a purpose,” Rosenberg explained. He pointed out that users can do anything from creating a single, simple page, to  adding dynamic features like blogging tools, videos, social features, e-commerce features and more. As for pricing, Wix subscribes to the “freemium” model, and offers both free and premium versions. The 100% free version is supported by Wix ads and a Wix domain name. The premium version includes a custom domain name, more storage, more bandwidth, premium support and more. Other special features will also add to the monthly price.

Peace of Mind

Wix will also give customers invaluable peace of mind, taking care of all those pesky technical details. The company provides the backend infrastructure and will handle the technical issues that arise when maintaining a website. That means it will handle domain name registration, security concerns, connectivity issues and more, putting nerves at ease  and freeing up manpower to focus on growing the business. “What we want our users to focus on is what they’re building with the website, not their website platform,” Rosenberg stated.

The Next Frontier in Web Design

Wix is continuously working on new products to push the boundaries with web design. One of those is Wix ADI (artificial design intelligence). The product works by asking a series of questions, including the name and theme of the website and your tastes. It then researches similar Wix websites and automatically creates a website then and there. “From our 150 million users, we know what works,” said Rosenberg.

Stay in Contact with Customers

Another new product is Wix Ascend. Launched in December, Wix Ascend is a suite of tools that helps businesses manage their online customers, putting the back end of user conversations in one area. “As soon as we’re able to tell them who that customer is, it’s all combined together. And from there, there’s a really cool contact panel,” said Rosenberg. In addition, Wix offers a marketing panel. “What this allows is to not just manage your business, but to also grow it,” he said. This includes an email marketing editor, SEO features and more. Wix will work even more directly with Google to improve search result rankings.

Building a Product Base among Developers

While designed to be easy to use, Wix sees opportunity with advanced coders, as well. “We will be looking to make code a better product for more advanced developers,” said Rosenberg. A platform that’s already offered is called Wix Code. “If you’re an application developer, you’re able to use the front end design, you know with the editor to use the front end design and then you can really focus on building your application,” explained Rosenbserg.
