You may be getting the kids ready to go back to school, but you can also get ready for your next getaway. Pump up your frequent flyer miles or points with back-to-school shopping offers from United MileagePlus, American Airlines AAdvantage and Southwest Rapid Rewards.

Whichever airline loyalty program is your favorite, you’ll be able to earn extra points or miles when you stock up on school supplies, clothing, electronics and anything else that you may need for the school year. All three airlines have online shopping portals that offer access to hundreds of retailers, from Macy’s and Kohl’s department stores to the Apple Store and Dell computers.

United MileagePlus

You can earn up to 4,000 United miles for using MileagePlus Shopping through August 12. Bonus miles are awarded according to how much you spend. You’ll get the full 4,000-mile bonus for spending at least $1,500. Purchases of $600 to $1,499 will net you 1,750 miles, and purchases of $125 to $599 earn 500 miles.

American Airlines AAdvantage

American is offering a maximum of 3,500 AAdvantage miles. Like the United offer, the number of miles earned is tied to how much you spend on back-to-school items. Spend at least $125 to earn 500 miles; $500 to $999 to earn 1,250 miles; and $1,000 and up for the full 3,500-mile bonus. Be sure to use the AAdvantage eShopping mall before August 16, when this deal expires.

Southwest Rapid Rewards

Southwest’s back-to-school deal is also good through August 16, and also gives a maximum of 3,500 points. The earning/spending limits are exactly the same as American Airlines’ offer: $125 earns 500 points; $500 earns 1,250 points; and $1,000 or more gets the full 3,500 points.

The Fine Print

All points or miles earned through shopping portals may take as little as five days or up to 10 weeks to post to your account. None of the offers can be combined with other promotions, and some restrictions apply. Be sure to read the full terms and conditions before you start your shopping spree.
