Torrid Insider Credit Card - Everything You Ever Need to Know
The Torrid card comes with some potentially valuable discounts and access to exclusive offers. However, you don’t have to be a cardholder to join the store’s rewards program.
You could, then, double dip by earning points through Torrid’s loyalty program while simultaneously earning cash back with a different and more flexible credit card. Due to the limited nature of the Torrid card, that will probably be the best option for most people.
Avid Torrid shoppers who make at least a couple of big purchases a year, though, may still want to consider the store’s credit card. It comes with two 30 percent off passes a year, which could be quite valuable if you spend a lot. If you don’t, it’s probably not worth getting the card.
The other benefits of the card include a couple of small welcome offers and occasional access to exclusive sales. There is no annual fee.
Torrid Credit Card Features and Benefits
Unfortunately, the Torrid credit card does not offer a lot of perks or benefits, though it does come with two welcome bonuses. You’ll get an instant $20 sign-up bonus good toward purchases at Torrid and 25 percent off your first purchase.
The major benefit of this card is the two 30 percent off passes you’ll get every year. You can use these passes at any time, so it might be worth getting the card if you think you’ll make a couple of big purchases, like refreshing your summer or winter wardrobes.
Cardholders do periodically receive exclusive offers, though they vary. Determining the value of those offers in advance is impossible, and they may not even benefit you.
There’s no annual fee, so it won’t cost you anything to get the card.
What You Get
- $20 sign-up bonus good at Torrid
- 25% off your first purchase
- Two 30% passes annually
- Exclusive offers
- No annual fee
You don’t have to have the card in order to earn points in the Torrid rewards program. In fact, cardholders do not earn points faster or enjoy any other special benefits in the program.
Unlike many co-branded store card, the Torrid Insider credit card does not offer any special financing. You will pay the standard APR of 26.24% on any balance you carry. If you miss a payment, you will be charged a $38 late fee.
While you should avoid carrying a balance on any credit card, if you need to make a big purchase at Torrid that you won’t be able to immediately pay off, consider getting a card that has a promotional 0% APR offer. There are plenty on the market.
You’ll get out of paying interest for anywhere from 6 to 18 months with one of those cards, giving you some time to pay off your balance without incurring additional costs.
Beyond the welcome bonuses, annual 30 percent discounts and occasional exclusive offers, the Torrid credit card offers no special perks. You can join the store’s rewards program without the card, and you won’t earn more as a cardholder.
How Much Will You Earn with Torrid Credit Card?
You don’t have to have the Torrid credit card in order to join the store’s free rewards program, so there’s no reason not to become a member.
At the base level, you’ll earn one point per dollar spent. Every 200 points you earn can be redeemed for a $10 gift card. That works out to a value of five cents per point, which is essentially a 5 percent return. That’s better than you’ll do with most rewards credit cards.
Platinum program members earn even more. They get 1.5 points per dollar spent, which means they’re effectively getting 7.5 cents per point, or a 7.5 percent return, which is incredible. The only way to become a Platinum member, though, is by earning 1,000 points in a year. That’s $1,000 in Torrid purchases.
All program members also get a special birthday reward and early access to new collections and sales. Platinum members get free shipping on web purchases and an exclusive customer service phone line.
Should You Get the Torrid Insider Credit Card?
The Torrid Insider card has one thing going for it: discounts. You’ll get an instant $20 credit toward Torrid purchases and 25 percent off your first purchase.
The best card benefit, though, is the two 30 percent off certificates you’ll receive every year. You can use those discounts at any time. If you tend to go on big shopping sprees, perhaps to update your seasonal wardrobes, then those discounts could save you a lot of money. It may be worth getting the card for that, particularly since there’s no annual fee.
But if you tend to make multiple smaller trips to Torrid and don’t run up big bills on one or two days a year, you may want to skip this card. You can still join store’s rewards program and earn gift certificates toward future purchases.
One potentially more lucrative option for more casual Torrid shoppers would be to get a standard cashback credit card. That way you could earn both Torrid points and cash back while at the store. Even better, the cashback card can be used anywhere, not just at Torrid, and the rewards you earn with the card won’t be tied to one store.
There are a lot of great no-annual-fee cashback cards available, so there’s sure to be one to fit your spending habits. We’ll get into some of those options below.

Compare Torrid Insider Card
The Torrid Insider card isn’t your only option. There are a lot of clothing stores and many of them offer their own co-branded credit cards. Let’s take a look at the no-annual-fee cards offered by TJ Maxx, Kohl’s and Macy’s to see how they compare.

One big difference between the TJ Maxx card and the others listed above is that it’s issued as a MasterCard and can be used anywhere. The other cards can only be used at their respective stores.
You’ll earn five points per dollar spent at TJ Maxx with the TJX Rewards card, and every 1,000 points you earn can be redeemed for a $10 certificate. You’ll effectively get 5 percent back with this card for TJ Maxx purchases, which is pretty good.
It’s nice to have the option to use the TJX Rewards card outside of TJ Maxx, but it will only earn 1 percent back on those purchases. That’s not a very good rate of return. Also, rewards can only be used at TJ Maxx. It’s more flexible than the Torrid card, but it’s still not a great choice for an everyday cashback card.
The Kohl’s Charge card comes with two welcome bonuses. You’ll get 25 percent off when you apply and another 15 percent off after you get the physical card. The only other perk of the card is that you’ll get exclusive offers and discounts. While Kohl’s says you’ll get at least 12 offers a year, they don’t tell you what they will be.
Kohl’s has a rewards program, but you don’t have to be a card member to join. In fact, you won’t get any special benefits in the program or earn more as a cardholder. You’ll get one point per dollar spent and a $5 certificate for every 100 points you earn.
The more you spend with the Macy’s card, the more perks you get. At the basic Silver level, you’ll get 25 percent off the first day you have the card, and every purchase will earn one point per dollar. That’s not a great rate of return.
If you spend between $500 and $1,199 a year, you’ll be bumped up to Gold status. That adds free shipping on web purchases and a birthday discount to the list of perks. And if you make $1,200 or more in purchases a year, you’ll get five points per dollar. You have to be a big spender to get much out of the Macy’s card.
Some Alternative Cards to the Torrid Credit Card
While it may be tempting to get a quick discount on your first purchase with a store credit card, a standard cashback card will probably be more valuable in the long run. It will definitely be more flexible. Below are some excellent cashback cards you may want to consider instead of the Torrid card.

Best Cashback Card
With the Citi Double Cash card, you can earn 2.0 percent cash back on every purchase. That’s the best return you’ll get with a fixed-rate card, but you have to pay your balance in full in order to earn that much.
You’ll get 1 percent back when you make a purchase, and another one percent only after paying it off. If you often carry a balance, then this card may not be for you. If you pay off your card regularly, you’ll earn a lot of cash back with the Citi Double Cash.
The best thing about cashback cards is that they are a lot more flexible than store cards. They can be used anywhere, and the rewards you earn are as good as cash. Just redeem for statement credits or even a check in the mail.
Another benefit that comes with many cashback cards is a 0% intro APR offer, which gives you interest-free financing for a fixed period of time. With the Double Cash card, you’ll get 18 months of 0% APR on balance transfers.
That’s a great option for getting out of debt. Just transfer your balance from a high-interest card to the Double Cash, and you’ll get 18 months without interest. That means you can put all of your money toward paying off the principle instead of struggling to keep up with interest payments.
Best Rotating Category Card
Some cashback cards earn higher rates of return in select categories of purchases instead of a fixed-rate for all purchases. The Discover it Cashback Match card is one of them. You’ll get an impressive 5.0 percent back in rotating categories that change every four months.
The specific categories change a bit from year to year, but they always include popular merchants, such as restaurants, gas stations, wholesale clubs, grocery stores and more.
Discover does cap the bonus earning at $1,500 a quarter. After that, you’ll earn at the standard rate of 1 percent.
In fact, all purchases that don’t fall into the bonus category earn just 1 percent back. That’s not great. You’ll probably want to make this card part of a bigger earning strategy that includes another cashback card, like the Double Cash.
You should aim to earn more than 1 percent every time you make a purchase. So you could use the Discover it card for purchases that fall into the bonus category and the Double Cash for everything else.
However, you should use the Discover card exclusively the first year you have it because of the Cashback Match. At the end of the first year, Discover will match every dime you make in cash back. The more you spend, the more you’ll earn.
If you max out the bonus categories, you’ll earn $300 back after spending just $6,000. That’s great, but you’ll get another $300 back at the end of the first year, for a total for $600 in cash back. That’s a 10 percent return rate, which is unprecedented.
On top of that, all non-bonus purchases are also eligible for the match. Those purchases will effectively earn 2 percent back the first year. That’s matches the best of the fixed-rate cashback cards, making the Discover it card unbeatable for the first year.
Discover also has excellent security features. They are the only issuer to offer free Social Security number alerts and daily credit report checks.
What does that mean? Well, they will monitor risky websites located in the dark web for the illegal use of your Social Security number. That’s where criminals buy and exchange information used for identity theft.
Discover will also check your Experian credit report every day, looking for new entries in your name, such as credit card accounts, mortgages and car loans. If they find something suspicious, you’ll know about it.
Get the Biggest Bonus
There are a few no-fee cashback cards that come with a sign-up bonus. Typically, the best offers are for $150 after reaching a minimum spending requirement, though you will occasionally find a special promotional offer for as much as $200.
One card that consistently offers a sign-up bonus is the Blue Cash Everyday from American Express. You’ll get a quick $150 after spending $1,000 within your first three months as a cardholder. If you’re looking for a quick cash infusion, this card needs to be on your radar.
Even without the bonus, the Blue Cash would be a great card. You’ll get 3 percent back on the first $6,000 you spend at grocery stores per year, an unlimited 2 percent back at gas stations and select department stores and 1 percent back for all other purchases.
It’s hard to find a cashback card that offers a bonus for department stores, which makes the Amex Blue Cash unique. This card makes it easy to earn extra cash back while hitting your favorite clothing stores.
Department stores that are eligible for the 2 percent rate include a lot of big names, such as Nordstrom, Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kohl’s, Belk, Bloomingdale’s, J.C. Penney, Bon Ton, Sears and more. There’s no need to have a wallet full of store credit cards with the Blue Cash.
American Express also offers some excellent cardholder perks, including its well-regarded customer service. You’ll also get complimentary rental car insurance, access to the Amex Global Assists hotline, roadside assistance and free travel accident insurance.
The benefits don’t stop there. You’ll get 15 months of 0% APR for both purchases and balance transfers. If there’s a big ticket item you need a little extra time to pay off, or if you have existing debt you want to eliminate, this card can help with over a year of interest-free financing.
Whenever you apply for a credit card make sure you read the terms and conditions of the card and the rewards program to find out about minimum spend requirements and any restrictions to ensure you can successfully obtain the card and earn the rewards it offers.
