Top 5 Benefits of the Spark® Cash Select Credit Card for Business
The Spark Cash Select for Business is a solid no-fee cashback card for any small business owner or independent contractor who wants to earn a bonus for every purchase.
- Sign-Up Bonus: You’ll get a quick $200 just for getting the card and meeting the minimum spend. That’s not bad for a card without an annual fee.
- Bonus Earning on Every Purchase: You’ll get a solid 0 return on every purchase you make, and there’s no limit on the cash back you can earn.
- No Annual Fee: There’s no cost to hold this card, so there’s no reason you shouldn’t add it to your wallet.
- Hassle-Free Rewards: There’s no need to hunt down the best redemptions or worry about limited award space. Just redeem for cash, essentially earning 1.5 cents per dollar spent.
- 0% Introductory APR on Purchases: Looking for a card to help finance a big purchase? Or maybe you’re thinking about a short-term investment in your business? Get interest-free financing for the first 9 months of card membership.
While it’s not the most rewarding card on the market, the Spark Cash Select for Business earns a solid 1.5 percent return on every purchase and has no annual fee. That makes it a great card for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of special bonus categories for purchases or complicated award redemptions from airlines.
That doesn’t mean, though, that it’s only good for those who are new to credit card rewards. Since this card has no cost and earns a bonus on all purchases, it’s a great backup to have in case your other rewards cards aren’t going to earn more than a 1 percent return on a particular purchase.
Another reason to consider this card is if you have a lot of expenses coming up soon and you’re going to have to carry a balance for a few months. Grab this card and take advantage of some interest-free financing. All new purchases get 0% APR for the first nine months you have the card. Just be sure to pay off your balance before the special rate runs out. Paying interest can quickly eat away all the rewards you earn.

The Spark Cash Select card is designed for small business owners who have excellent credit. It comes with some special features geared toward business owners, like quarterly and year-end spending summaries for budgeting and tax preparation, downloadable records for Quicken, QuickBooks, Excel, free employee cards, access to dedicated business customer service representatives and more.
If you don’t think you’ll use these benefits, you should consider applying for Capital One’s personal version of the card, Quicksilver. It comes with the same earning potential and interest-free period on purchases, but also adds 0% financing for nine months on balance transfers. The only drawback is that the sign-up bonus is $50 less, at $150. Though you only have to spend $500 in three months to get the bonus.
Note that it doesn’t take much to qualify for a business credit card. You just have to show the issuer that you make some profit from self-employment. This could be as simple as selling items on ebay or Etsy. Independent contractors qualify, too.
Spark Cash Select for Business is a cashback card, not a travel rewards card. You cannot directly redeem the rewards you earn with this card for airfare, hotels, car rentals or other travel. You can, however, use the cash back you earn to pay for any travel you want. Simply redeem your rewards for either a statement credit or a check and use it toward purchases from any airline, hotel or other travel outlet.
If you’d rather have a travel card, consider a Miles card from Capital One. The Spark Miles Select is very similar to the Spark Cash Select card. It has no annual fee and offers 1.5 miles for every dollar spent. You’ll also get a 20,000 miles sign-up bonus that’s worth $200 in travel. Miles can be used to cover travel purchases you’ve already made via Capital One’s Purchase Eraser or for future travel through the travel portal operated by Orbitz.
Capital One’s policy is to limit customers to two directly issued personal cards. However, that does not include store cards, such as Saks or Kohl’s, or secured cards, which are designed for building credit. That means you can only have two of their travel or cashback cards, which are branded as Venture and Quicksilver, respectively.
While there isn’t a written policy dealing with business cards, the limit does not seem to include the Spark for Business cards either. If you’re looking for a way to carry more Capital One cards, you could look into getting a business card.
You should immediately call Capital One to report the missing card. The Spark Cash Select card comes with $0 liability, so you won’t be charge for any unauthorized purchases made on the card.
Since the Spark Cash Select is a Visa Signature card, it includes Emergency Card Replacement services. Wherever you are in the world, Visa will send you a new card as quickly as possible. If you need cash until the new card arrives, you also qualify for Emergency Cash Disbursement. Emergency cash will be sent to a convenient location close to you.

Second Year Value
The Spark Cash card is a step up from the Spark Cash Select, offering a bigger sign-up bonus and better earning potential. It also comes with a $59 annual fee, which is waived for the first year. You’ll get 2 percent back on every purchase and a $500 bonus after spending $4,500. The Select card has no fee, earns 1.5 percent per dollar and has a $200 bonus after spending $3,000.
The Spark Miles Select is the no-fee version of the standard Spark Miles card, which has a $59 annual fee that’s waived for the first year. Like the Cash cards, the standard Miles card has better benefits, offering two miles per dollar and a 50,000 miles sign-up bonus, compared to the Select card’s 1.5 miles per dollar and 20,000 miles bonus.
The Miles cards can be used to pay for travel purchases via the Travel Purchase Eraser or through Capital One’s travel portal powered by Orbitz. The Cash cards, on the other hand, can only be used to earn cash back. The best card for you will depend on how much you spend and what you want use your rewards for.
Compare Spark® Cash Select Credit Card for Business to Other Cards
There are a lot of small business rewards cards on the market. Let’s take a look at how the Spark Cash Select stands up to the competition.
Of these cards, the Ink Business Cash card is the most similar to the Spark Cash Select. Like the select, it’s a no-fee cashback card, though its earning scheme is notably different.
With the Ink card, you’ll get an impressive 5 percent back on the first $25,000 you spend a year at office supply stores and on internet, cable and phone services. You’ll also get a solid 2 percent back at gas stations and restaurants for up to $25,000 in spending a year. All other purchases and all purchases in those categories beyond their $25,000 limits will earn just 1 percent back. Also, the card’s sign-up bonus is $100 more, offering a total of $300 after spending $3,000.
So why would you choose the Spark Cash over the Ink Cash? The cards can serve different purposes. The Spark is an easy-to-use earner. You’ll never have to worry about special categories or limits, making it a good card for everyday spending or just as a backup for purchases that wouldn’t earn a bonus with other rewards cards. The Ink card is better for someone who wants to take a more active approach to reward earning. It would make a good primary card that you could supplement with something like the Spark card.
Both the Amex Business Gold Rewards and the Starwood Preferred Guest Business cards are best for someone who wants to be able to transfer their points to various airline and hotel partners for free travel. The Amex card is a better all-around earner, with several bonus categories. The SPG card, on the other hand, has unparalleled flexibility due to its 30+ airline transfer partners. You can potentially get a lot more value per point with these cards, but you’ll have to put in some time in order to find the best redemptions.
Whenever you apply for a credit card make sure you read the terms and conditions of the card and the rewards program to find out about minimum spend requirements and any restrictions to ensure you can successfully obtain the card and earn the rewards it offers.
