"Get $20 off your first purchase and up to 10% back at Lane Bryant."

If you often shop at Lane Bryant, you may have considered getting their credit card. Do the benefits of this card make it worth having? The Lane Bryant credit card is issued by Comenity Bank and offers rewards to their customers with a tiered system. The tiers, which are Preferred, Premier and Platinum, are determined by how much you spend.

This card allows cardholders to earn anywhere from $10 to $20 in rewards per 400 points. You will receive two points for every dollar spent.

If you spend $800 dollars or more this year at Lane Bryant, this card may be worth it for you. By spending $800, you will reach the Platinum tier. At this level, shipping is free on all online purchases. This level also gives you a 10 percent reward rate since you’ll get $20 for every $200 you spend.

On the other hand, this card does not have a significant sign-up bonus. The card can only be used at Lane Bryant, Cacique and Catherines because it is not a Visa, MasterCard or American Express. Rewards can only be redeemed at Lane Bryant, too. Above all else this card has a steep interest rate, so if you are not planning on paying the balance immediately, the rewards may not be worth it.

Lane Bryant Credit Card Features and Benefits

Knowing what benefits come with a credit card can help you decide if it’s a good fit for you. Here we cover the bonuses and perks that the Lane Bryant Credit Card offers and the value of the rewards you earn.

Bonuses

The Lane Bryant card has no annual fee and a good reward rate. Depending on which tier you are within you can earn between 5 and 10 percent back on the money you spend there. Which tier you fall into will depend on how much you spend.

The entry level Preferred status is automatic and you don’t need to spend anything to get it. At this level, cardholders will earn a $10 reward certificate for every 400 points or $200 spent.

Once you spend $400, you will automatically be upgraded to Premier status. That will get you a $15 certificate for every 400 points.

To reach the highest reward rate and gain Platinum status, you will need to spend $800 or more. But that will get you a $20 reward certificate for every 400 points.

What You Get

  • $20 off of their first purchase
  • $20 annual birthday reward certificate
  • 2 points per dollar spent
  • A $10 reward certificate for every 400 points
  • Access to exclusive promotions and special monthly offers
  • Extended returns
  • Free shipping for online orders
  • No annual fee

Customers will automatically receive rewards when they reach 400 points. Rewards cannot be redeemed online and must be brought into a store. You can only redeem one reward per transaction. You will be mailed a paper reward certificate within 45 to 90 days after your points are converted. Points expire after 12 months.

In-Store Financing

Aside from the line of credit you receive when you are approved, this card does not have any special financing options. You will receive an interest-free grace period of 25 days on all purchases. This means you have 25 days days from the statement billing date to pay off your bill without being charged interest. After that, the APR is a whopping 28.49% Variable±.

Customer Perks

Lane Bryant cardholders will get access to monthly special offers and exclusive deals. Unfortunately, Lane Bryant does not offer a rewards program separate from their credit card. So that is the only way to get the exclusive offers. This card has no annual fee so even if you get it just to stay privy to special offers, it won’t cost you as long as you do not carry a balance on it.

All customers will get $20 off their first purchase when they open and use their card. They’ll also get 2 points for every dollar spent and the ability to earn extra points from special monthly offers. They get extended returns of up to 60 days and savings on shipping from lanebryant.com. All cardholders will also get a birthday gift in the form of a $20 reward certificate.

However, all cardholders are not rewarded equally. Their reward system works on a tiered level. Within their reward system the main differences within the tiered levels is the amount of rewards earned, the minimum purchase requirement to be eligible for free shipping at lanebryant.com, and the monthly earning limits.

The Lane Bryant tier system is as follows:

  • Lane Preferred - Spend $0 to $399 and get a 5% reward rate by receiving a $10 certificate for every 400 points ($200 spent). You’ll also get free shipping on all online purchases over $100. This level caps reward earning at $40 per month.
  • Lane Premier - Spend $400 to $799 and get a 7.5 percent reward rate by receiving a $15 reward certificate for every 400 points. You’ll also get free shipping on all online purchases of $75 or more. This level caps reward earning to $60 a month.
  • Lane Platinum - Spend $800 or more and get a 10 percent reward rate by receiving a $20 certificate for 400 points. You’ll also get free shipping on all online purchases. This level caps reward earning to $80 a month.

What Is the Value of Lane Bryant Points

With the Lane Bryant card, the value of your rewards increases with the more you spend. The amount that you have spent at Lane Bryant during a calendar year will determine the amount of the reward certificate you will receive. Therefore, the value of the points will correlate directly with the status you have achieved within their tier system.

All cardholders receive two points per dollar spent and will automatically receive a reward certificate when they accumulate 400 points after spending $200. The cents per point value or CPP will increase with your status.

What is CPP and How is it Calculated?

Cents Per Point (CPP) is a way to measure the value of points. It tells you how many cents you get for each point you redeem by dividing the cash price of the hotel room by the number of points of an equivalent award stay costs. This can be a somewhat subjective calculation because the price of the stay in both cash and points fluctuates by season and availability.

Should You Get the Lane Bryant Credit Card?

If you anticipate spending upwards of $800 at Lane Bryant this year, the card might be worth it. Although you get five cents per point at that level of spending, you get two points per dollar at Lane Bryant and Cacique. This makes the rewards 10 cents per dollar at the Platinum level, which is a good return.

If you plan on spending less than $400, the reward rate drops to five cents per dollar. This is still a good reward rate; however, there are some caveats. There are earning caps at each level. Which means you can never redeem more than a certain amount within that month depending on your status. Earning caps are as follows:

  • Lane Preferred - Spending less than $400 will cap reward earning at $40 per month.
  • Lane Premier - Spending less than $800 will cap reward earning at $60 per month.
  • Lane Platinum - Spending $800 or more will cap reward earning to $80 per month.

Anytime you spend over $800 dollars within a month you will no longer receive rewards at any level. You can also only cash in on one certificate per transaction. So, if you need to redeem more than one certificate you are going to need to do more than one transaction. Another downside is that you need to redeem these reward certificates in-store. They cannot be used online.

Have you ever gone to redeem your rewards and instead spent more than you were planning? That’s the ploy with many store cards. You get caught in an endless cycle of spending when you thought you were receiving. You might want to consider using another card to avoid the never-ending cycle of needing to spend more to redeem your rewards.

If you are going to spend more than $800 in a month, you may want to consider using another card as well because at that point you will no longer be earning any rewards. At that time, you may want to consider using a cashback card or any other type of reward earning credit card.

Keep in mind when using store cards to earn rewards you never want to carry a balance because store credit cards are notorious for high interest rates. The APR on the Lane Bryant credit card is 28.49% Variable±. So carrying a balance on this card can quickly negate any rewards you thought you were earning. If you need to carry a balance try using a credit card with a 0% promotional interest rate.

  • Where can I use my Lane Bryant credit card?

The Lane Bryant credit card does not have the logo of a major payment network such as Visa or MasterCard, therefore it has limited usefulness. You can use your card at Lane Bryant, Lane Bryant Outlets, Cacique and Catherines.
When using the card at Lane Bryant or Cacique, cardholders will receive two points per dollar spent. When shopping at Catherines, cardholders receive one point per dollar spent.
Rewards are only redeemable at Lane Bryant stores, and they cannot be used online. Keep in mind you can only use one reward certificate per transaction. If you have several certificates, you may want to do several small transactions as opposed to one large purchase.
  • What forms of payment does Lane Bryant accept?

Lane Bryant accepts all major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. They also accept the Catherines and Fashion Bug credit cards. You can also use PayPal. You can use your debit card to pay either with the debit or credit option. They also accept gift cards branded by any of the major payment networks. They also accept personal checks and of course cash.
  • Where can I make my Lane Bryant card payments? Can I pay my Lane Bryant credit card in-store?

You can pay your bill online or in the store. As long as you submit your payment by 8 p.m., it will be credited to your account the same day.
You can also mail your payment with a personal check, cashier’s check or money order. When mailing, be sure to enclose the payment stub from your bill. If not included, your payment may be rejected. This can cause you to incur steep fees.
There is also an option to make an expedited payment over the phone. However, this should be a last resort as there is a hefty fee of up to $15 for that service.
  • Will a Lane Bryant credit card help me build my credit and improve my credit score?

The Lane Bryant credit card reports to the major credit bureaus. Therefore, if used wisely it can help you build your credit. To build your credit you must make timely payments on the card. Timely payments have a high impact on your credit score.
Also, don’t carry a balance. Store cards are well known for having low limits. If you have a card with a low limit, even a small balance can throw off your utilization rate which can have an unfavorable outcome for your credit score.
Your credit utilization has a high impact on your credit score. This is basically how much credit you have compared to how much of it you are using. You never want your credit utilization to go above 30 percent. The higher it goes above 30 percent, the worse it can be for your score. So even if you make timely payments but carry a balance that is near your limit, it can take a toll on your score. If you are trying to build your credit, use the card for just that and don’t use it to buy things you can’t afford.
  • Can I get a Lane Bryant card if I have bad credit?

If you have bad credit you will probably not be approved for the card. Store cards may not make their rules as stringent as some of the top banks, but you should at least have fair credit to apply.
The reason store cards can be a little more lenient than traditional banks is there is less risk involved. The number one reason is low limits. Limits on store cards are significantly lower than traditional credit cards. If you have fair credit, don’t be surprised by a limit of $500 or even less. Even if you have excellent credit the limit probably won’t get much higher anyway.
Stores also like to incentivize customers to use their credit cards by presenting special offers and discounts that can only be obtained by using the card. This may also incentivize you to spend more, which is what they want.
  • Should I apply for the Lane Bryant credit card?

If you shop at Lane Bryant often and think it will be worth it, you can apply in store or on their website. You should have at least a fair credit score and take a couple of other factors into consideration.
How many credit cards do you have and have you applied for any others recently? Although it is recommended to have at least 11 accounts for an optimal credit score, this is something you want to do over time. You never want to apply for too many cards in a short period of time.
Also consider if there are other cards you are thinking about applying for in the near future. This is a consideration because many of the top banks and credit card issuers are becoming more stringent with their rules. For instance, Chase has the 5/24 rule which implies that if you have opened more than five accounts in the past 24 months you can be automatically denied. So, if you have already gotten four other cards this year, it may not be worth it.
The point is: how much use will you get out of the credit card? Will it ultimately save you money or will it cost you? If you are not good at clearing out your bills promptly and have a tendency to let your balance linger, this may not be a good card because the interest rates are so high they can add up fast and quickly outweigh what you thought you were saving or being rewarded.
  • With the Lane Bryant Card, can I earn rewards at other stores?

You can use the Lane Bryant credit card at Cacique as well as Catherines. However, you will only earn one point per dollar spent at Catherines.
The Lane Bryant card is not branded by a major network like Visa or MasterCard. This means that it can only be used at Lane Bryant and its sister locations. If you are looking for a card that has more options, try a traditional cashback credit card branded by a major payment network. This type of card will allow you to earn rewards for shopping at Lane Bryant as well.

The sign-up bonuses on these types of cards are typically minimal. Whether a percentage off or a straight up dollar amount is better will, of course, depend on how much you plan to spend. However, I don’t think any of these bonuses are breaking the bank for anyone. They are a gesture at best.

The reward rates on the Lane Bryant and NY & Co. cards are good rates, but the fact that you can only redeem rewards at those particular stores sort of limits the value when compared to a true cashback card. The Dress Barn card doesn’t even have rewards, so just steer clear of that one.

As you can see they all have no annual fee. However, they all also have high interest rates. So, you never want to carry a balance or use these types of cards for financing as it would be costly.

It is also not advisable to carry a balance on a store credit card because they usually come with low limits, which can be bad for your credit score and can easily impact your credit utilization. You never want your credit utilization to go above 30 percent.

For example, if you are carrying a $450 balance on a card with a $500 limit, that would put your utilization at 90 percent. The higher you go above 30 percent, the worse it is on your credit score.
