My Kohl's Credit Card Review
Kohl’s is one of the largest department store chains in the United States. It currently operates over 1,100 stores, with locations in every state except Hawaii. Many consumers enjoy shopping at Kohl’s because of the fair prices they offer and the amount of savings opportunities they have available, including Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You Rewards. Kohl’s shoppers can save even more money by applying for the My Kohl’s Charge card.
The Kohl’s credit card creates additional ways for Kohl’s shoppers to save money on the purchases they make. As a Kohl’s Charge cardholder, you will be entitled to at least 12 special offers per year. The special offers cardholders receive can be used in combination with Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You Rewards.
Aside from the money-saving offers that are included, there aren’t too many unique benefits for Kohl’s Charge cardholders. In addition to a lack of benefits, the card has a fairly high APR. If someone were to carry a balance on this card, they would likely negate the value of the special offers they receive.
The My Kohl’s Charge credit card can only be used to make purchases from Kohl’s since it is not affiliated with any major payment network. If you have good credit, you may want to consider applying for a traditional cashback credit card instead. Although the My Kohl’s Charge card itself may be a bit lacking in features, responsible Kohl’s shoppers could use this card as a way of building their credit.
Features and Benefits
Knowing what benefits come with a credit card can help you decide if it’s a good fit for you. Here we cover the bonuses and perks that the Kohl’s Charge Card offers and the value of the Capital One points you earn.
The My Kohl’s Charge credit card is very similar to a lot of the store credit cards that are currently available to consumers. It comes with no annual or membership fees, and it provides the cardholder with a few money-saving opportunities, including a 30 percent discount on your first purchase as a cardholder.
Also receive a birthday gift and other surprises. Kohl's Charge entitles you to at least 12 special offers every year. Use your Kohl's Cash and Yes2You Rewards with your Kohl's Charge discounts.
The My Kohl’s Charge credit card will automatically have your Yes2You Rewards membership linked to it. By linking your Yes2You Rewards membership to your My Kohl’s Charge account, you will be able to receive reward points every time a purchase is made on your My Kohl’s Charge account.
What You Get
- 30% OFF your first Kohl's charge purchase.
- Get another 15% OFF discount when your card arrives in the mail.
- Earn 1 point for every dollar spent.
- Earn $10 Kohl's Cash® Coupon for every $50 spent.
- Get a $5 reward for every 100 points.
- Also receive a birthday gift and other surprises.
- Kohl's Charge entitles you to at least 12 special offers every year.
- Use your Kohl's Cash and Yes2You Rewards with your Kohl's Charge discounts.
Every time a dollar is spent on your My Kohl’s Charge account, 1 point will be earned. For every 100 reward points that you earn, a $5 reward certificate will be issued to you. Points can be saved in your account for up to 12 months. If your account has been inactive for more than 12 months, any points that have not been converted into rewards cash will expire. It’s also important to keep in mind that all rewards certificates must be used before they expire.
The My Kohl’s Charge credit card does not include any type of special financing plans. In addition, Kohl’s itself does not currently have any type of special financing options available.
The most significant perk that comes with being a Kohl’s Charge cardholder is the potential amount that you can save when combining all the money saving options you have available. Although My Kohl’s Charge cardholders can only earn $5 for every $100 spent through the Yes2You Rewards program, they have the opportunity to collect Kohl’s Cash several times per year.
When Kohl’s Cash is being offered, shoppers can earn $10 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 they spend. During a Kohl’s Cash redemption period, My Kohl’s Charge account holders can combine one of their special offers with the Kohl’s Cash they have earned. In addition, Yes2You reward certificates can also be redeemed at the same time.
What Is the Value of Kohl’s Credit Card
Yes2You is the official loyalty program that is used by all Kohl’s department stores. By becoming a member of the Yes2You Rewards program, you can earn reward points on all your Kohl’s purchases. Whenever someone opens a new My Kohl’s Charge card account, a Yes2You Rewards account is linked to it. Although having the My Kohl’s Charge credit card allows you to get the most out of your Kohl’s purchases, it’s not a requirement to become a Yes2You Rewards member.
No matter which form of payment you choose to use when shopping at Kohl’s, you will always be able to earn one point for every dollar you spend as a Yes2You Rewards member. The points you collect can only be redeemed for Kohl’s reward certificates. Every 100 points you collect can be redeemed for a $5 reward certificate. Every Yes2You point that you collect has a cash value of five cents.
What is CPP and How is it Calculated?
Cents Per Point (CPP) is a way to measure the value of points. It tells you how many cents you get for each point you redeem by dividing the cash price of the hotel room by the number of points of an equivalent award stay costs. This can be a somewhat subjective calculation because the price of the stay in both cash and points fluctuates by season and availability.
We use the following formula to calculate the CPP:
Should You Get the My Kohl’s Charge Credit Card
If you happen to be a person who shops at Kohl’s on a regular basis, you might be able to benefit from having the My Kohl’s Charge credit card. On the other hand, if you only shop at Kohl’s every now and then, this card would probably do nothing more than take up space in your wallet.
It’s no secret that applying for the My Kohl’s Charge card can allow you to save additional money on your Kohl’s purchases. But is it necessary? Aside from the discount you get when first applying for your card, the only other discounts you will receive are the 12 special offers they give to you every year.
Kohl’s regularly offers Kohl’s Cash to their shoppers, and they’re constantly putting new items on sale every week. So, in theory, there isn’t any specific need to receive additional money saving opportunities from Kohl’s.
Although Kohl’s will enlist you in their Yes2You Rewards program when you become a My Kohl’s Charge account holder, it’s important to remember that you do not need a My Kohl’s Charge card to become a Yes2You Rewards member. Anyone can join, and it’s completely free of charge. Having the My Kohl’s Charge card will not affect the amount of rewards that you can earn.
The My Kohl’s Charge card is very similar to most of the other store credit cards that are available. Since the card is not affiliated with any major payment network, it can only be used for purchases you make from Kohl’s.
In addition, this card includes an APR of 24.99 percent. Although it’s not the highest APR in the world, it’s still on the higher side. Choosing to carry a balance on this card could leave you in a massive amount of debt.
If you’re someone who only shops at Kohl’s, or if you’re looking for a card that will only benefit your Kohl’s purchases, the My Kohl’s Charge credit card could be a decent option for you. However, if you’re only applying for the card because you occasionally shop at Kohl’s, you may want to consider finding a card with a little more spending flexibility.
Consider an option such as the Citi Double Cash card. That card allows you to collect up to 2 percent cash back on any purchase you make, and it can be used anywhere major credit cards are accepted.

Compare Kohl's Credit Card
Other Kohl's cards
For the most part, credit cards offered by major department store chains will have a very limited set of features and benefits. For example, it’s pretty hard to find a store credit card that includes a decent sign-up bonus. In addition to limited features, most of these cards will have very little flexibility when it comes to where the card can be used. If you frequently shop at a specific retailer, applying for one of their credit cards could potentially have some benefit, regardless of how limited the card may be.
|Sign-up bonus||0 points||0 points||0|
|APR On Purchases||28.49% Variable±||26.49% Variable±||27.74% Variable±|
|Second Year Value||$1,200||$1,200||$0|
As you can see from the comparison above, credit cards offered by major department store chains can be very similar to one another. The My Kohl’s Charge credit card is issued through Capital One, the TJX Rewards card is issued through Synchrony Bank and the C21 Status Card from Century 21 is issued through Comenity. Even though each of these credit cards are issued through different banks, they all offer a very similar set of benefits.
With the My Kohl’s Charge credit card, you’ll get 1 point for every dollar that you spend on purchases. After collecting 100 points (after spending $100), you’ll earn a $5 reward certificate. The TJX Rewards card offers you the same exact rewards, but it’s calculated at a different rate. For every $200 spent on your TJX Rewards card, a $10 reward certificate will be earned.
The C21STATUS credit card allows cardholders to earn rewards in a similar way, but at a much lower rate. For every 500 points earned with this card, a $10 reward certificate will be issued. The rewards you can earn with different store credit cards will usually follow a very similar pattern; however, specific benefits will usually differ from one another.
Benefits included with the My Kohl’s Charge credit card include 30 percent off your first Kohl’s charge purchase and another 15 percent off when your card arrives in the mail. Aside from this, you’re entitled to at least 12 special savings offers per year and a birthday gift. With the TJX Rewards credit card, the only benefit you will receive in addition to the rewards is 10percent off the first purchase that you make with the card.
The C21STATUS card offered by Century 21 also includes a few benefits aside from rewards points. Around the time of your birthday, you will receive a 20 percent off coupon. In addition to this, you can receive free standard shipping on online purchases, depending on the status level of your card.
The only other difference between these three credit cards is the APR that they carry. Even though they’re all different, they’re all on the higher side when it comes to credit card APRs.
Some Alternative Cards for Kohl’s Shoppers
If you’re serious about applying for a store credit card, you should take a little time to at least consider some of the other options that might are available. An important thing to always keep in mind is that there are several standard cashback credit card options available that are a lot more flexible. Using a regular credit card with rewards instead of a store card allows you to earn even more rewards at a much wider range of places.
Best Cashback Card
The Blue Cash card from American Express is the best cashback card. First off, the Blue Cash card comes with a significant welcome offer that allows you to earn $150 if you spend $1,000 within the first three months of getting the card.
Aside from the huge cash back welcome offer that’s included, the Blue Cash card offers high cashback rates in a few different categories. Every year, cardholders can collect 3% cash back at U.S. supermarkets, up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%). 2% cash back at U.S. gas stations & select U.S. department stores. 1% cash back on other purchases.
Best Rotating Category Card
The Discover it Cashback Match card is the best rotating category credit card. With the Discover it Cashback Match credit card, you can collect percent cash back on up to $1,500 in purchases made within a specific category. The bonus category rotates quarterly (every three months).
The rotating bonus categories typically include gas stations, wholesale clubs, grocery stores, restaurans, Amazon and more. Discover only permits you to earn percent back on these categories during the respective quarter. If you’re making a purchase that is not eligible for the percent cashback bonus, you can still earn 0.01 percent back on the purchase.
During your first year as a cardholder, Discover will match all of the cash back you earn. So you’ll make 10 percent back in the bonus categories and 2 percent back on everything else. That’s hard to beat with any card.
Best Welcome Offer
The Quicksilver card offered by Capital One has some of the best bonuses available. The bonuses begin right from the start, with their 0% introductory APR offer. Once you’re approved for the card, you will have a 0% introductory APR on both purchases and balance transfers for 15 months .
The bonuses continue with their new card member offer. When you are first approved for the Quicksilver card, you will be eligible to receive a one-time cash bonus of $ 150 after spending $500 within the first three months of your account opening. A bonus that large is kind of like getting 30% cash back on your purchases.
Aside from the bonuses included with the card, the Quicksilver card allows users to collect 1.5percent cash back, instead of the usual 1 percent, on every purchase they make. There are no limits and no special categories to worry about. Every purchase earns a bonus.
Whenever you apply for a credit card make sure you read the terms and conditions of the card and the rewards program to find out about minimum spend requirements and any restrictions to ensure you can successfully obtain the card and earn the rewards it offers.
