"Packed with benefits, this small business card is well worth the annual fee if you're a frequent JetBlue flyer."

The JetBlue Business MasterCard is a great option for any frequent JetBlue flyer. The card has useful bonus categories to help earn points quickly and a variety of JetBlue benefits.

The card comes with a 30,000 points sign-up bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days. You will earn double points at both restaurants and office supply stores, plus an awesome six points per dollar on JetBlue purchases. Card members also receive a free checked bag and a 50% in-flight savings

The value of your points also increases when you hold this card since you get a 10 percent refund each time you redeem for an award ticket. You can earn TrueBlue Mosaic elite status with this card, too, by spending $50,000 during a calendar year.

There are some negatives for this card as well. The JetBlue Business MasterCard comes with a $99 annual fee that is not waived for the first year. Plus, JetBlue does not fly to as many cities as major legacy airlines, and therefore this card may not be useful to as many travelers.

Bonuses and Benefits

Knowing what benefits come with a credit card can help you decide if it’s a good fit for you. Here we cover the bonuses and perks that the JetBlue® Business MasterCard® offers and the value of the Barclays TrueBlue points you earn.

Bonuses

The Barclays JetBlue Business card comes with a 30,000 points sign-up bonus after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days of account opening. With a typical redemption value of 1.68 cents per point, the sign-up bonus is worth approximately $504. In addition, the JetBlue Business card automatically gives you 5,000 points each year when you renew your account. At the same valuation, it’s worth $84, which offsets most of the $99 annual fee.

Barclaycard offers several benefits for business owners. Barclays will provide a consolidated statement which shows the primary cardholder’s spending along with that of each employee card. You can add employee cards at no additional cost and each card will have your business name embossed on it. You can also set up control and spending limits for each card.

The JetBlue Business card also offers an annual spending bonus, which fast tracks you to elite status. If you spend $50,000 in a calendar year, you automatically receive Mosaic status, which grants a wide range of benefits (more on that below).

As a card member, you’ll receive 10 percent of your points back each time you make a redemption, which effectively increases the value of your points by 10 percent. You can also get a $100 statement credit if you purchase a JetBlue vacation package, which is airfare combined with a hotel stay.

What You Get

  • 30,000 points after you spend $1,000 within the first 3 months
  • 5,000 points every year you renew your card
  • 10% of your points back on every redemption
  • Mosaic elite status after spending $50,000 in a year
  • Free checked bag for cardholder and up to 3 companions
  • $100 statement credit after purchasing a JetBlue vacation package
  • Complimentary employee cards
  • 6 points per dollar spent with JetBlue
  • 2 points per dollar at restaurants and office supply stores

TrueBlue points never expire. This is generous considering that most airlines require activity in order to keep points from expiring. If you happen to go an extended period between JetBlue redemptions, there is nothing to worry about!

What is the value of the TrueBlue Points?

JetBlue does not have an award chart like most airlines. Instead, the cost of award tickets vary with the cash price of the ticket. The redemption values float within a range, though, so it is not a true fixed-value points program.

Those who have conducted extensive analysis on the value of TrueBlue points tend to find that the value ranges between 1 to 1.9 cents per point. Mint fares, JetBlue’s premium cabin product available on transcontinental and Caribbean flights, tends to have the highest values, typically around 1.68 cents per point.

What is CPM and How Is It Calculated?

Cents Per Mile (CPM) is a way to measure the value of miles. It tells you how many cents you get for each mile you redeem by dividing the cash price of the airline ticket (minus taxes and fees charged for an award ticket) by the number of miles the award flight costs. This is a somewhat subjective calculation because the price of the flight in both cash and miles fluctuates by season and availability.

The Best Ways to Redeem JetBlue Points

JetBlue has a revenue-based award program. According to JetBlue, award prices vary based on the published base fare at the time of booking. That depends on, among other things, the flight chosen and applicability of peak travel periods. The airline does not publish an award chart, so the price of any award can only be determined by searching on JetBlue’s site and viewing the results.

Revenue-based award systems have both positive and negative attributes. You can always get decent value for your points, even when redeeming them for relatively cheap flights. That’s because the award price will also be relatively low. Also, the value of your points will not vary as much as they can with zone- or distance-based programs, so you’ll always know about what your points are worth.

The main negative about a revenue program is that it is not possible to get outsized value for your points. The very best redemptions for JetBlue typically top out around 1.9 cents per point.

Many travelers want to know the best way to use JetBlue points. The best redemptions are typically for JetBlue’s Mint premium cabin product on transcontinental and Caribbean flights. JetBlue points are also eligible to be redeemed on Hawaiian Airlines flights.

Other ways you can redeem points

Vacation Packages

JetBlue offers the ability to redeem points for vacation packages, which include both hotels and airfare. They can only be booked using the cash + points option

Magazine Subscriptions

Points can be redeemed for magazine subscriptions with no cash cost. There are a wide variety of magazines from which to choose, and redemptions start at just 100 points.

Flights on Hawaiian Airlines

While JetBlue is not a member of an airline alliance, they do have a partnership with Hawaiian Airlines. These award flights cannot be booked online; you must make your reservations through 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583).

Cash Back

TrueBlue point cannot be redeemed directly for cash back.

Everyday Earnings

The bonus categories offered by the JetBlue Business MasterCard make it a very good card to earn JetBlue points. Most co-branded airline cards don’t offer bonus categories outside of spending with that specific airline.

The JetBlue Business card earns two points per dollar at both restaurants and office supply stores. If you are a business owner that spends a significant amount of money at office supply stores, such as Staples or Office Depot, there is a ton of earning potential by having this card. The bonus categories do not have spending caps, so you can earn an unlimited number of points at bonus rates. The card also earns six points per dollar on JetBlue purchases.

No Foreign Transaction Fee

You’ll never pay an additional fee to use the card while traveling abroad.

ic_elite_statusCreated with Sketch.Earn Elite Status Fast

JetBlue only has one level of elite status, which is called Mosaic. Earning Mosaic status typically requires 30 segments plus 12,000 base flight points, or 15,000 base flight points. JetBlue Business cardholders can earn status by spending $50,000 in a calendar year, with no flying requirement.

Mosaic status comes with several benefits, including complimentary alcoholic beverages, waived change and cancellation fees, two free checked bags, 15,000 bonus miles upon qualification and faster points earnings. You also get access to an expedited security line and early boarding.

  • Earn Mosaic status by spending $50,000 a year on your JetBlue card

Fees: the cost of Having the Card

The annual fee for this card is $99. At a typical valuation of 1.68 cents per point, you would need to spend $6,188 a year to earn enough to offset the fee. However, with an automatic annual renewal bonus of 5,000 points, the net amount of spending required to offset the rest of the annual fee is just $1,188. In addition, the JetBlue Business card earns double points on groceries and office supply stores, so if some of your spending falls in these categories, you would need to spend even less.

The annual fee is not waived for the first year, however the 30,000 points sign-up bonus easily covers the cost of the fee.

Top 5 Benefits of the JetBlue Business Card

The JetBlue Business card combines strong earning power with a solid array of travel benefits. Here are the top 5 perks:

  1. Big Sign-Up Bonus: This card comes with a nice sign-up bonus of 30,000 points which is worth approximately $504 in airfare.
  2. Earn Points Quickly: The card has 3 bonus categories: 6x on JetBlue purchases, 2x at restaurants and 2x at office supply stores.
  3. Free Checked Bags: The primary card member and up to 3 travel companions on the same reservation each receive their first checked bag free. This can result in up to $200 of savings on a round-trip flight.
  4. Fast Track to Elite Status: You can earn Mosaic status when you spend $50,000 per calendar year, which offers free checked bags, free alcoholic beverages and priority benefits.
  5. Anniversary Bonus: Each year you renew your card you automatically receive 5,000 bonus points. This helps offset most of the annual fee.

Should You Get the JetBlue Business MasterCard?

The JetBlue Business card is a great choice for frequent JetBlue travelers. After accounting for the value of the 5,000 points anniversary bonus, the annual fee is effectively only $19. Even getting a single free checked bag a year, which would be a $25 savings, would make the card pay for itself.

This card has significantly better earning power than most airline cards. With double points at both restaurants and office supply stores, there are a ton of opportunities to rack up points and earn your next free flight.

The card is also great for those seeking a shortcut to elite status. Spending $50,000 in a calendar earns you automatic Mosaic status. While this status doesn’t have nearly the benefits that are available with top status on other airlines, it still improves the travel experience for frequent flyers.

FAQs

Need more info? Check out our frequently asked questions. If you have other questions, please click on “Ask Now” below.

  • How do I apply for the JetBlue credit card?

The JetBlue Business card is issued by Barclaycard and can be applied for on their website. Barclaycard is not the most restrictive card issuer; they don’t have any hard and fast rules regarding approval or sign-up bonuses like most of the big banks.
Chase will not approve you for most cards if you have opened five or more card accounts in the past 24 months; Amex will not allow you to hold more than 4 to 5 total credit cards; and Citi has restrictions on sign-up bonuses that apply to entire families of cards. If you are having trouble with other banks, Barclaycard may be a place to look.
  • Is there a comparable personal JetBlue credit card?

Yes, there is. The JetBlue Business card is very similar to the JetBlue Plus card on the personal side. Both have a $99 annual fee, a 30,000 points sign-up bonus and the same array of benefits. The one difference is in the bonus categories. The personal card earns two points per dollar at grocery stores, while the business card earns two points at office supply stores.
  • What is the best credit card for earning JetBlue miles?

The JetBlue Business card is a fantastic way to rack up JetBlue miles, which are called TrueBlue points. The card has three bonus categories. You’ll get six points per dollar on JetBlue purchases, two points per dollar at restaurants and two points per dollar at office supply stores.
Amex Membership Rewards points transfer to JetBlue, but the standard rate is only 250 MR points to 200 TrueBlue points. Citi ThankYou points also transfer, but their cards don’t have a bonus category as broad as office supply stores. And do card has a better earning rate on JetBlue purchases than the six points per dollar offered by this card.
  • What is the current JetBlue credit card offer?

The current sign-up bonus for the JetBlue Business card is 30,000 points after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days. This is a relatively low spending requirement for the number of points you’ll get. It is also a much higher offer than the 5,000 points available for the no annual fee version of the JetBlue card. It’s great for people looking to earn points quickly.

Compare Cards

There are three different JetBlue credit cards offered by Barclaycard. First is a no annual fee card which has a 5,000 points sign-up bonus and a reduced array of benefits. Second is the JetBlue Business card discussed in this review. Last is the JetBlue Plus card, which has almost all of the same benefits as the business card.

The JetBlue Plus card and the JetBlue Business card are essentially identical. Relative to the no annual fee card, they offer higher earning power on JetBlue purchases (three points per dollar vs. six points), as well as free checked bags and the ability to earn Mosaic status.

The no annual fee JetBlue card still offers double points at restaurants and grocery stores, and may be a good option for less frequent travelers.
