"If your planning a trip to a Disney theme park, grab this no-fee card and get exclusive access to special events, a $50 gift card, a variety of discounts and 0% APR for Disney vacation packages."

If you’re a Disney fan, you might not be able to resist the colorful and personalized Disney Visa card, especially since it has no annual fee. You may also be drawn to its plethora of Disney discounts, special access perks and the $50 Disney gift card you’ll receive after your first purchase. If you have a Disney vacation coming up and charge it on the card, you might also be able to take advantage of the six-month 0% APR offer on qualifying Disney packages.

When it comes to earning rewards on the card, however, you’ll get just 1.0 percent back for each dollar spent. While the card doesn’t quite measure up to other rewards cards, it may still hold a certain appeal for the die-hard Disney fan.

Bonuses and Benefits

Knowing what benefits come with a credit card can help you decide if it’s a good fit for you. Here we cover the bonuses and perks that the Disney® Visa® Card offers and the value of the Chase Reward Dollars® you earn.

The Disney Visa card focuses on providing perks and discounts for avid Disney fans. The card offers a $50 Disney gift card as a welcome bonus. You’ll earn that gift card after the first purchase, and it can be spent on your next Disney adventure or when you visit your local Disney store.

Cardholders also receive discounts on Disney merchandise, Disney dining, guided tours and more. The perks continue with special invitations to Disney meet and greet character events and preferred access at Disney properties. You earn 1 percent back in Disney Rewards Dollars for every dollar you spend on the card.

What You Get

  • $50 Disney gift card after your first purchase
  • 0% APR for 6 months on select Disney vacation packages
  • Access to exclusive photo opportunities at Disneyland and Walt Disney World and special events at Disney stores
  • 10% off on merchandise purchases of $50 or more at Disneyland and Disney World, and at Disney stores and
  • 10% off select dining locations at Disneyland and Disney World
  • 15% off select guided tours at Disneyland and Disney World

Regardless of the activity on your Disney Visa card or Disney Rewards account, your rewards expire five years after they are earned.

What is the value of the Membership Rewards® Points?

The value of Disney Rewards Dollars is simple. Each dollar you spend is worth one cent toward select Disney purchases.

The Best Ways to Redeem Disney Reward dollars®

Since each Disney Rewards Dollar is worth a dollar at the time of redemption, there are not many opportunities to maximize their value. You can make your Disney Rewards Dollars go further, however, by redeeming them for reward categories that offer the cardholder a discount. For instance, you could use your Disney Dollars for meals at a Disney property. The 10 percent discount on dining combined with using your Disney Dollars will help the rewards go further. Disney Rewards Dollars can be redeemed for just about everything Disney.

Everyday Earnings with Disney® Visa® Card

While the Disney Visa earns 1 percent on every dollar you spend on the card, this is not an extraordinary earnings structure, and it makes the Disney card mediocre for everyday spending. There are just too many other rewards cards out there that earn 1.5 to 2 percent on every dollar spent.

Top 5 Benefits of the Disney Visa Card

The Disney Visa offers the avid Disney fan a wide range of discounts and perks at Disney-branded venues and bonus Disney Rewards Dollars with their first card purchase. Card holders also benefit from no annual fees, Disney redemption options, and no-interest financing for six months on Disney Vacations.

  1. Sign-Up Bonus: Enjoy $50 in Disney Rewards after your first purchase.
  2. Disney Discounts and Perks: Cardholders will receive discounts at Disney stores, dining, theme park tours and more. Special perks include Disney character meet and greet events and free photo downloads.
  3. No Annual Fee: The Disney Visa can stay in your wallet for a long time as there is never an annual fee to pay.
  4. Simple Redemption Structure: Redeem each Disney Rewards Dollar for a dollar in Disney purchases. If you have 50 Rewards Dollars you can redeem them for $50 towards Disney purchases.
  5. Initial Zero APR: You’ll receive six months of 0% interest for purchases of certain Disney vacations.

Should You Get the Disney Visa Card?

Disney fans might consider getting the Disney Visa card to earn Disney Rewards Dollars that can be used to fund Disney-related purchases. While the card does come with Disney perks and discounts, its earning potential is weak with only 1 percent earned for each dollar spent on the card. You’ll do better with any 2 percent cashback card and end up with double the dollars to spend at Disney.

The Disney Visa does offer a $50 sign-up bonus that can be used directly for Disney-related purchases. The card may be compelling for the avid Disney fan who is looking for a no annual fee card and wants to finance an upcoming Disney vacation as the card comes with six months of 0% APR for certain Disney vacation packages. There are, however, other rewards cards available with better earning potential and more flexible redemption options.

  • What are my choices for redeeming my Disney Rewards Dollars?

Each month when your Disney Visa card statement closes, the Rewards Dollars you have earned will be transferred to your Disney Rewards account. Once you have 20 Disney Rewards Dollars, you can request a Disney Rewards Redemption Card loaded with your Rewards Dollars. You can use that card at a Disney store, for park entrance, at Disney Resorts and Hotels (including room charges), dining at Disney parks, Disney vacations and cruises, Disney tours and even Disney movies.
  • How do I use the 0% APR period to finance a Disney vacation?

The Disney Visa card comes with special financing for qualifying Disney vacations. You’ll receive a 0% APR for the first six months after opening your card for these purchases. Disney Resort packages, Adventures by Disney packages, Disney Cruise Lines, Disney Vacations and other Disney packages qualify for this offer.
To receive the special financing, you must charge your vacation to your Disney Visa card and book though a Disney travel company. A complete list of agencies is included in your card member agreement.
  • What other perks do I get with the Disney Visa card?

First, there is no annual fee for the Disney Visa card. The card also comes with a lot of Disney discounts and perks. Cardholders receive 10 percent off Disney dining and select Disney merchandise purchases of $50 or more. A 15 percent discount is also provided on tours at Disney Parks/Resorts.

You may first be enticed by the Disney Visa card for its lack of an annual fee, but the Disney Premier Visa card delivers more than enough additional value to offset its $49 fee.

As far as sign-up bonuses go, you’re going to earn a $50 Disney gift card with the Disney Visa after your first purchase. The Disney Premier Visa is a little more lucrative with a $200 bonus after you spend $500 in the first three months from account opening.

When we look at earning potential, the Disney Premier Visa wins with bonus categories. You’ll get 2.0 percent for gas, groceries, restaurants and most Disney purchases, versus 1.0 percent on all purchases with the Disney Visa. This means your Disney Rewards Dollars could add up faster with the Disney Premier Visa if you’re utilizing the card for purchases in these bonus categories.

Unlike the Disney Visa, the Premier Visa card allows you to redeem Disney Rewards Dollars toward airline tickets.

If you want a no-fee card, then the Disney Visa can still deliver those Disney discounts and special perks. The $50 sign-up bonus is also a nice benefit. But if you’re willing to stretch, pay the $49 annual fee and go for the Disney Premier Visa. You’ll receive better earning potential and more flexible redemption options.

If you’re not a Disney fan with an upcoming Disney experience, there is no reason to consider either of these cards.

Compare the Disney Visa Credit Card to Other Cards

When it comes to using rewards credit cards to fund a Disney vacation, you’ll find that other cards can accomplish the same objective as the Disney Visa. All of the cards we’re comparing below have the potential to redeem rewards for travel purchases, including many of those associated with a Disney vacation.

Comparing annual fees, we find that the Discover it Miles, the VentureOne Rewards and the Disney Visa are all no-fee cards. The Barclay Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard charges $0 but waives the fee the first year.

The VentureOne Rewards Card comes with a 20,000 -point sign-up bonus worth $200 toward travel. Earning 1.25 miles per dollar spent makes it a better earning option than the Disney Visa card, and it has more flexible redemption options.

The Discover it Miles credit card earns 1.5 percent back with no sign-up bonus and no annual fee. That may seem similar to the Disney Visa card, which earns 1 percent, comes with a $50 sign-up bonus and charges no annual fee. The huge difference is that the Discover it Miles card doubles your points at your first year card anniversary, effectively giving you 3 percent back on all spending. As rewards can be redeemed for travel purchases, this no annual fee card might be a good option for a family saving up for an annual vacation.

With a 50,000-point sign-up bonus worth a $500 statement credit toward travel purchases, the Barclay Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard provides a nice jumpstart for funding a vacation. The card earns two points for every dollar spent and offers a 5 percent rebate of any points you redeem. You’ll pay an $89 annual fee beginning in the second year, but the earning potential, point rebates and travel redemption flexibility are strong reasons to get and keep the card.

All of the cards except the Disney Visa allow you to redeem rewards for travel purchases made on the card. The Disney Visa only allows Disney-related redemptions.

If you’re a big Disney fan and you want a Disney-branded credit card with no annual fee, the Disney Visa, with its fun personalized Disney design and Disney perks, discounts and special invitations, might seem like a compelling option. If the sign-up bonus of $50 and the Disney perks have enough value to you, you won’t be harmed by the Disney Visa, but you will sacrifice a hard credit pull and earning potential. Just know there are better rewards cards out there.
