The card comes with a high annual fee of $450, which is not waived for the first year. Prospective card members should carefully weigh the benefits and rewards before applying for this card.

Bonuses & Benefits of Delta Amex Cards

Knowing what benefits come with a credit card can help you decide if it’s a good fit for you. Here we cover the bonuses and perks that the Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card offers and the value of the AMEX SkyMiles® miles you earn.

The standard sign-up bonus for this card is 10,000 miles, though it sometimes goes up to 40,000 miles. You’ll also receive 10,000 MQMs. These bonuses require spending $3,000 within the first three months.

In addition to the sign-up bonus, this card has a two-tired annual spending bonus. If you spend $30,000 in a year, you will receive an additional 15,000 MQMs and 15,000 miles. If you spend $60,000 in a year, you will receive another 15,000 of each, for a total of 30,000 MQMs and 30,000 miles.

What You Get

  • Earn 40,000 miles and 10,000 MQMs after spending $6,000 within the first 3 months
  • Get an additional 15,000 miles and MQMs if you spend $30,000 in a year
  • If you spend $60,000 in a year, you’ll get a total bonus of 30,000 miles and MQMs
  • Complimentary Delta Sky Club lounge access
  • Annual domestic round-trip companion certificate in first class or economy
  • Free checked bags on Delta flights
  • Priority boarding
  • 20% off in-flight purchases
  • Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) waiver after spending $25,000
  • 2 miles per dollar spent with Delta

Delta miles are one of the few types of airline miles that do not expire. This is nice because you won’t have to worry about generating activity in your account to keep your miles alive.

What is the value of the SkyMiles® Miles?

The Delta SkyMiles program is based on a traditional, region-based award pricing system; however, they also have much more variability in pricing than most carriers. That’s because Delta no longer publishes award charts, so the only way to know for sure how much an award costs is to search on and view the available options.

You may find several prices available for the same route. That’s because Delta’s variable award pricing scheme differentiates prices based on destination, demand and other factors. This can mean prices are higher or lower, so in some cases can actually increase the value of your miles.

What is CPM and How Is It Calculated?

Cents Per Mile (CPM) is a way to measure the value of miles. It tells you how many cents you get for each mile you redeem by dividing the cash price of the airline ticket (minus taxes and fees charged for an award ticket) by the number of miles the award flight costs. This is a somewhat subjective calculation because the price of the flight in both cash and miles fluctuates by season and availability.

The Best Ways to Redeem Delta Miles

Some of the best values for Delta miles are available by booking short-haul domestic economy awards on routes with expensive cash prices. It’s possible to find round-trip awards for less than the standard price of 25,000 miles, even for flights that cost several hundred dollars when booked for cash.

For those interested in premium cabin international travel, its best to book flights operated by Delta rather than those operated by partners. Delta partner awards are typically far more expensive than those on Delta metal.

While Delta miles can’t be redeemed directly for hotel reservations, they can be earned this way. Crossover rewards with SPG offer certain elite benefits to Delta elite members.

Everyday Earnings with Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card

You’ll get two miles per dollar spent with Delta, and all other purchases earn just one mile per dollar. While the Delta Reserve Business card doesn’t have any bonus categories that help you earn extra miles on everyday purchases, the annual spending bonuses do offer opportunities for elevated earning rates. You can earn a bonus of 15,000 miles and MQMs by spending $30,000 in a year, which can be doubled by spending $60,000 in a year.

If you spend exactly at these thresholds in a year, your effective earning rate is 1.5 miles per dollar. The great thing is you don’t need worry about which stores to shop in because these bonuses apply to all spending.

Earn Elite Status Fast

Card members can earn a total of 30,000 MQMs per year with the Delta Reserve card by spending $60,000. This is enough to earn Silver status, which requires 25,000 MQMs, without taking a single paid flight. In addition, spending $25,000 in a year results in a Medallion Qualification Dollar (MQD) waiver, which eliminates the requirement to spend money on Delta flights to earn elite status.

  • Earn 15,000 MQMs toward elite status after spending $30,000 in a year
  • Get another 15,000 MQMs if you spend $60,000 more a year
  • Spend $25,000 and receive a MQD waiver

Fees: the cost of Having Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card

This card’s annual fee is $450. If you make $30,000 in purchases a year, you’ll cover the cost of the card. That’s because you’ll earn at least 30,000 miles, and they’re worth at least 1.5 cents each. If you spend about $2,000 a month, you’ll pay off the card in 15 months. Remember, though, that spending $30,000 in a year will net you an extra 15,000 miles, worth about $225.

However, this is based purely on the value of the redeemable miles and not the MQMs, free checked bags, lounge access and other benefits of the card. For those that use these benefits frequently, little to no spending may be required to cover the annual fee.

The annual fee is not waived for the first year. The sign-up bonus of 40,000 miles is worth about $600, which can help cover the first year’s fee.

Top 5 Benefits of the Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card

The Delta Reserve Business card is expensive, but it also comes with a lot of valuable perks and beneifts. Let’s take a look at the top five:

  1. Sky Club Access: Complimentary access to Delta SkyClubs means free food and drinks before and after your flights.
  2. Fast Track to Elite Status: Being able to earn elite status with little spending on actual flights is a benefit that offers a lot of value, especially complimentary upgrades.
  3. Annual Companion Pass: A family or friend can fly with you for free on a domestic round-trip flight, including first class.
  4. Ongoing Bonuses: In addition to the 40,000 miles sign-up bonus, you can earn an additional 15,000 miles every year you spend $30,000 on the card. Or take home a total of 30,000 miles yearly, if you can spend $60,000. Those bonuses come with MQMs, too!
  5. Free Checked Bags: Save $25 per flight each way on free checked bags for each person on your itinerary, up to 9 people total.

Should You Get the Delta Reserve Credit Card?

The Delta Reserve for Business card is best for those who travel frequently on Delta but not often enough to earn elite status. Those travelers can really take advantage of certain benefits, such as lounge access and free checked bags. People who tend to fly on low cost flights may not be able to meet the spending qualifications for elite status, but this card offers a waiver around that. With a hefty $450 annual fee, this card is a good fit only for those who will use the benefits often.
