2019Best Offer of the year with No Foregin Fee

The Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite MasterCard is one of the leading premier rewards credit cards, and it’s a great card to round out your wallet due to its versatility. Every purchase earns doubles miles that can be redeemed with any airline, hotel, cruise line or rental car company. And to get you started, you’re rewarded with 70,000 miles after spending $5,000 in the first 90 days. That’s worth $700 to help pay for your next vacation.

One of the best parts of this card is the ease of redeeming miles. Simply make your travel purchase using the card, then use your accumulated miles to reimburse your travel expenses. It’s that easy. In addition to larger travel costs, you can also use your Arrival miles to pay bag fees, upgrade fees, lounge access and more. The only downside is that you can’t transfer these miles to other loyalty programs or combine them with other rewards programs. The Arrival miles are their own rewards currency.

Barclay Arrival Plus Card: Bonuses and Benefits

Knowing what benefits come with a credit card can help you decide if it’s a good fit for you. Here we cover the bonuses and perks that the Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® offers and the value of the Barclays Barclaycard Arrival Rewards miles you earn.

One of the most attractive benefits of the Barclaycard Arrival Plus is the amazing 70,000 miles sign-up bonus worth $700 toward travel expenses. Once you meet the minimum $5,000 spend within 3 months, you’ll have 56,000 points to redeem toward travel purchases.

Each mile is worth one cent toward any qualifying travel expense, which includes airfare, hotels, cruises, car rentals and more. Plus, every time you redeem miles, you automatically get 5 percent of your miles back. Redemptions start at 10,000 miles, which is good for $100 in travel expenses in the form of statement credits. If you do not have enough miles available to redeem for the full price of your travel purchase, you will be able to redeem within pre-determined increments between $100 and $2,000.

What You Get

  • Enjoy 70,000 bonus miles after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 90 days
  • Earn unlimited 2X miles on every purchase
  • NEW - Control Your Card - Instantly secure your accounts by locking your cards with Barclays SecurHold™, plus set transaction limits and block certain purchase categories for you or your authorized users. Available only on the Barclays mobile app.
  • Book travel your way—no airline, seat or hotel restrictions—and redeem your miles for travel statement credits
  • Get 5% miles back to use toward your next redemption, every time you redeem
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • International Chip and PIN for use at self-service chip terminals around the world
  • Miles don’t expire as long as your account is open, active and in good standing

Another great benefit of the Arrival Plus card is that the miles you earn don’t expire. As long as you’re a cardholder in good standing, the miles you earn won’t disappear or devalue.

What is the value of the Barclaycard Arrival Rewards Miles?

The Arrival Miles rewards program is extremely straightforward. On all purchases, you earn 2 miles per dollar spent, and each mile is worth 1 cent apiece. No matter where you use your card, you earn double miles. And no matter how you redeem those miles, they are worth 1 cent each toward travel purchases.

Because Arrival Plus miles are worth the same amount for domestic and international flights in economy and business class, you’ll always get the same value no matter how you use your miles. No airline is better for redemptions than another, so you can fly your carrier of choice in your cabin of your preference.

If you buy travel through the Barclaycard Arrival Rewards website, you’ll get a value of 2.0 CPM.

What is CPM and How Is It Calculated?

Cents Per Mile (CPM) is a way to measure the value of miles or points. It tells you how many cents you get for each mile or point you redeem by dividing the cash price of the airline ticket by the number of miles or points the award flight costs. That amount is multiplied by the number of miles or points earned per dollar spent on everyday purchases to account for cards that earn more than one mile per dollar spent.

The Best Ways to Redeem Arrival Miles

Because of the Barclay Arrival Plus MasterCard’s easy-to-use miles program, you don’t have to worry about saving up enough miles for a particular redemption or trying to find award availability. You simply purchase your airfare, hotel, or other travel expense, and you can redeem some or all of your Arrival miles to offset part or all of your expense. And with each redemption, you earn 5 percent of your redeemed miles back to use toward future travel. To maximize your miles, look for great hotel rates or airfare sales that allow you to redeem fewer miles toward your trip. These hassle-free rewards are flexible, so you can redeem them in whatever way makes sense for you.

Everyday Earnings with Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®

One of the best features of the Barclay Arrival Plus Card is the great return on everyday spending. In addition to the ability to redeem miles for unique travel expenses, this card makes it easy to earn 2 percent back on every purchase. Restaurants, groceries, dry cleaning, and more all earn 2 percent back. That makes this card great for beginners just getting started in the points and miles world as you can use one card for all your purchases. And for advanced points and miles enthusiasts, the great return on everyday spending makes the Arrival Plus card worth keeping.

Unlike other cards that only award bonus miles when making purchases with a specific airline or hotel chain, the Arrival Plus earns double miles on any airline or hotel purchase. Even better, all purchases earn double miles – not just expenses that are travel-related.

Travel Benefits

24/7 Concierge

You have access to a complimentary concierge any time of day. This service works like a personal assistant to help with reservations, hard-to-find items, and more.

No foreign transaction fee

You can earn miles outside the U.S. without worrying about extra fees.

Earn Elite Status Fast

The Arrival Plus card is great for frequent fliers, too. While this card does not help fast-track you to elite status, you can use your stash of Arrival miles to help pay for flights and minimize your out-of-pocket costs as more and more airlines are requiring you to spend certain dollar thresholds in order to earn status.

Fees: the cost of Having Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®

One of the most popular features of this card is that the annual fee is waived for the first year. As long as you meet the minimum spend, you’ll earn the 70,000 miles sign-up bonus. For the first year, you can use the card as much or as little as you like since keeping it costs you nothing.

The annual fee is $89 (waived first year). In order to offset the fee, you’ll need to spend $2,225 to earn 4,450 miles (since each dollar spent earns 2 miles). If you spend about $2,000 per month on this card, you’ll pay off the annual fee in just over two months.

Top 5 Benefits of the Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®

  1. Valuable Sign-Up Bonus: This card comes with a sign-up bonus worth $700 toward any travel purchase.
  2. Excellent Everyday Earning: You’ll get 2 miles for each dollar you spend. That will add up fast.
  3. Easy to Redeem: Your miles aren’t tied to a loyalty program. Just buy the flight you want and redeem miles toward that purchase. There are no blackout dates or limited award space.
  4. Miles Cover Any Expense: Whether you’re a globe-trotter or campground hero, miles can be used for the type of travel that fits you, and not the other way around. Redeem miles for everything from airfare and cruises to taxis and car rentals.
  5. Bonus Miles: You’ll earn 5 percent of all redeemed miles back that can be used toward your next trip. Best of all, these miles appear in your mileage account immediately.

Should You Get the Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®?

The short answer is absolutely. Depending on your travel and spending habits, this card may or not make sense for you after the first year when you start paying the annual fee, but earning 70,000 miles after meeting the minimum spend and earning 2X miles on all purchases are tremendous benefits. Not only that, but if this becomes your go-to card, miles will rack up fast, and with the 5 percent redemption bonus, that’s like earning 2.1 percent back on every purchase, every day. This card is just as good as any other cashback card currently on the market.

Additionally, this card is great for both world travelers and families looking for a weekend getaway. The solid earnings rate makes sense for everyone, and because the miles can be used for practically any travel expense, anyone can get value from this card and these miles. While Arrival miles don’t have the ability to be transferred to other loyalty programs, your miles will never expire as long as you keep the card.

  • Can I cancel the card after getting the sign-up bonus?

In short, the answer is yes. Once you earn the sign-up bonus and redeem the miles, you could cancel the card. But since there’s no annual fee the first year, it makes sense to keep the card for at least one year.

While you don’t get another sign-up bonus the second year, the card’s consistent earnings rate is among the best available. Additionally, credit card companies are starting to pay more attention to customers who sign up and cancel cards quickly, so doing so could damage your relationship with Barclays down the road in the event that you look to add more Barclay cards to your arsenal.

  • Can I redeem some of my points?

Absolutely. As long as you have at least 10,000 miles to redeem (equivalent to $100), you can redeem your miles toward travel, but you’re not required to redeem all your miles. If you’re planning a trip, you could redeem some miles once you purchase airfare and save some miles once you pay for your hotel. Or, you can redeem some miles now and more for your next vacation. Although not recommended, you could redeem miles for 0.5 cents each toward non-travel redemptions.

  • Can I pay with cash plus points?

With the Arrival Plus card, you make your travel purchase first, and then redeem miles second. Since you don’t have to redeem all your miles toward one travel expense, you could buy a $400 airline ticket, redeem 20,000 miles to offset $200 worth of the ticket, then pay the remaining $200 when your bill arrives. As long as you redeem Arrival miles toward travel, you can redeem as many or as few as you like (starting at 10,000 miles).

  • What travel is eligible to be purchased with miles?

Per Barclays’ website, the following counts as travel: airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, campgrounds, car rental agencies, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, trains, buses, taxis, limousines and ferries. For all these purchases, you’ll earn double miles. And if you’re ready to cash in, these same purchases are eligible to redeem for statement credits using your miles.

  • I already have a Barclays credit card. Can I also get the Arrival Plus? How many Barclaycard credit cards can I have?

Unlike some credit card issuers, Barclays does not limit the number of cards you can get. However, Barclaycard does limit your total credit. If you are denied additional cards, get in touch with Barclays and ask if they can move some credit from a card you already have to a new card.

Other Barclays cards

As you can see, the Arrival Plus is the sole card with an annual fee, but it also offers the best sign-up bonus and best earnings rate on purchases. If you’re just starting to dip your toe in the world of travel credit cards or maybe you’re in college and don’t have many expenses, one of these cards might be for you. While some people might be averse to paying an annual fee, the great earnings rate and lack of foreign transaction fees more than make up for it.

Compare Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard® to other Cards

While the Barclaycard Arrival Plus has some unique features, it does share a few similarities to other cards. In the table below, you can see the VentureOne from Capital One and Discover it Miles card also allow you to redeem rewards for any airline or hotel purchase.

70,000miles offer
Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard®

Check if Barclaycard Arrival Plus® World Elite Mastercard® is the best option for you

The Arrival Plus is the superior card. While the basic premise of all these cards is the same, the Arrival Plus has the biggest sign-up bonus (the Discover It card doesn’t even have a bonus). Further, the Arrival Plus is the only card that gives you a 5 percent bonus on the points you redeem. If you redeemed the entire sign-up bonus, that’s an extra 2,500 miles to get you started on your next trip.

The Capital One Venture card and Discover it Miles card are similar to the Barclaycard Arrival Plus, but the Arrival Plus is the standout. That said, if you already have this card and you’re looking to add something similar to your wallet, one of its competitors could be a good option.
