JetBlue’s new flights to Mexico City will have you saying, “Viva Mexico!” The airline now offers daily flights from Orlando and Fort Lauderdale to Mexico City.
This new route brings JetBlue’s total of destinations served in Latin America and the Caribbean to 35. They include popular warm-weather spots such as Cancún, the Grand Caymans, Bogotá and Turks and Caicos. In addition to Mexico City, JetBlue will also add Quito, Ecuador, to the list early next year. Mexico City is the carrier’s 91st destination, and you can bet that more will be coming soon.
Two Airports, One Destination
Flights leaving Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for Mexico City International Airport will depart at 8:38 p.m., and land before midnight, at 11:05 p.m. Travelers will be able to grab an early morning flight leaving Mexico City at 5:40 a.m. and hitting the tarmac in Fort Lauderdale at 9:52 a.m., so they can get in a full day back home or catch a connecting flight.
The flight between Orlando International Airport and Mexico City follows a similar schedule, leaving at 8:55 p.m. and arriving at 11:15 p.m. The return flight leaves Mexico at 5:40 a.m., arriving in Orlando at 9:56 a.m.
JetBlue will be flying its roomy A320 aircraft, which offers the airline’s famous legroom, along with wider aisles that make getting on and off easier. You’ll also get free snacks and beverages, along with free blockbuster movies.
Viva Mexico
Mexico City is a cosmopolitan city that has retained its rich culture and history, reflected in everything from the city’s architecture and culinary fare to its world-class museums and hot nightlife.
If you want to learn more about the city’s prehistory, you should spend some time at the Museo Nacional de Antropologia, which is chock-full of Aztec and Mayan exhibits. There are also ancient sites to explore nearby, such as Teotihuacan, a pre-Columbian Aztec settlement. Once there, you can climb the Pyramid of the Sun. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the ascent includes 243 stairs. Or you can take in the natural wonders on a hike in Paso de Cortés, with its breathtaking views of the Valley of Mexico.
If you’d prefer to stay in town, you can tour the markets to get a taste of local life, and see the city’s landmarks, including the Palacio de Bellas Artes and la Secretaria de Educacion Publica, both of which feature murals by Diego Rivera. Did you know that Lucha Libre Wrestling was actually born in Mexico City? You can see matches at the Arena Mexico, complete with fierce wrestlers wearing colorful and festive masks.
You may want to take a nap before heading out for a taste of the nightlife. The party traditionally starts before sunset and goes on until sunrise. The city is full of bars, cafes and nightclubs, including El Colmillo, the Bulldog Café, and Mama Rumba.
